Do we really want a contentious subject such as this in the forum. And if we do should it not be in the Soap Box?

One of my sailing forums has been spolied by the bile that erupts when otherwise reasonable people start to argue brexit/ scottish independance / the handling of the virus.

That man has taste! The best kipper burger I ever had was on the Isle Of Man where the local kipper smoker has a sideline in takeaways. There was a huge queue there when I last went, many of which were furriners.

I believe the contentiousness has been somewhat tempered by the proliferation of 'sardine related' content kicked off by The Austrian and Marmota .... Graham, like you I had sardines on toast as a kid and then abandoned them for decades .... I have rediscovered them recently as a nostalgic winter snack and have grown to appreciate them again!

My wife cringes when I have pilchards on toast, probably because I add chopped pickled onions to the fish before spreading really thickly on home made bread and butter. Delicious, but she still moans ;-).

I remember many years ago having sardine and peanut butter sandwiches - sounds repulsive but was actually rather tasty as I recall.

P.S. I'm in favour of the Union. There are too many factions trying to create division where there is none. I include the press in this. (Apologies for hijacking the sardine thread)

I plan to have sandwiches filled with John West Mackerel in Chilli Sauce for lunch. My mid week treat. Oh what an exciting life I lead.

Mrs F will have cheese and crackers. She doesn't get my obsession with oily fish.

Kippers on Muffins or Crumpets for us, just hansom for a lunchtime snack, sometimes a little grilled cheddar as a topping.

"The United Kingdom's Sea Fish Industry Authority, for example, classifies sardines as young pilchards."

So sad, they never made it to pilchardhood.

That reminded me of something I have been curious about for a while. Is Muffin the Mule still legal in the UK?
