When I was there 41 years ago (ouch) we didn't have much time to enjoy the view. Got used to running up and down the hill though and in very inappropriate footwear too.

They live st the top of Fairview Road, so the walk back from the pubs has a sobering effect.

He was No2 on Broadsword in the Falklands and had nothing but respect for the Argie pilots coming in well below mast height dropping heavy kit and going round again to empty their canons, he has some fantastic photographs. He went away a young man and came back grey, no kidding.. A fine friend and another John.

They emptied their cannons on us dug in on the beachhead, I came back bald!!!

Great photo remember it well.

One for old times sake Bruce.. you maybe had no need of a hat then either smile

Richard: Great pictures, yes the one with my favourite Royal brings back good memories met her on quite a few occasions never a dull moment.

Must confess I went down South with a receding hairline came back with less, have never not got so far down in a trench as I did during those bombing runs we had great respect for the pilots too. Watched a Mig get hit by a Sea Dart above our heads after he had just tried his best to hit us and then out run the missile. It went straight up his tail pipe he could see it in his mirror the plane exploded in a ball of orange flame our Bugler started playing the Last Post and we all stood and saluted, there were no cheers.

Thanks Martin, I can't lay claim to it unfortunately it's a local professional that shares them on a FB site, I'm box brownie standard grin2

The heron is a regular around dusk you can quite often see him near the Higher Ferry, there is an otter too around that area about the same time of an early evening, we have only seen it once but the Ferry crew see him regularly.

Take care out there mate.

I'm glad you like them Bruce, lucky man meeting her, she is my favourite too and a real grafter.
What a lovely story of mutual respect for a fellow military man, that is special and we all owe you and your comrades a great debt for the freedom we enjoy today notworthy Thank you for sharing that.
