Hi all,

Name’s Greg and I live in Altrincham. Just wanted to say hello as a new member to the forum. Just picked up my M3W today and am chuffed to bits!

The brakes are woeful, the steering needs 27 turns to go around the bend, I don’t fit, I froze, it’s a week old and already has rust on it, and I don’t care !

While I’m at it, my first cry for help (hope to be more of a contributor over time!)... I’m looking for a recommendation on a shop near me (Manchester) that could drill out the front exhaust baffles. I’ve read some posts on here but couldn’t quite believe how strangled the engine is. It won’t even rev to 5000, just sounds like gravel. I got a top notch cutter, extensions, but i’ve just been swearing for the last few hours and all I have is a sidepipe with a bunch of guide bits stuck in it! 😅

Hi Greg, the S & S X-wedge owners manual quotes the following:

During the break-in period the ECU will automatically limit engine RPM in 2 stages during the first 20 hours of engine operation. During the first 2 hours of operation the engine rev limiter is 4250 RPM. From 2 hours to 20 hours of engine operation the rev limit is 5125 RPM. After 20 hours the rev limit is set at the engines maximum RPM of 5800 RPM.

Welcome Greg and I hope you've thawed out.

As Lightspeed says, there is an initial rev limiter set to 4,250 rpm for the first 2 hours of operation and then 5,125 rpm until the engine has run for 20 hours. After that the limit is 5,800 rpm. It's likely that the engine has already done the initial 2 hours during production so you should have the 5,125 limit for a while. When the ECU reaches 20 hours the limit goes up automatically.

ACF-50 is your friend for rust prevention, use it liberally!

For the "bafflectomy" there's info at http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/422359/1

I've not done it myself but the advice is go very, very slow and use lube innocent

Hi Greg, I am about 15 miles south of Altrincham in Northwich.
I have owned a M3W from new in 2013 , and been around the block with it many times , literally.
I have done many upgrades / modifications , happy to help if you need a sounding board etc.

Welcome... I first got mine during the winter as well. At the time I did not know about the Rev limiter and sure thought it was constipated.

Welcome! I bought mine with just a few days of Fall weather remaining. Makes for an enjoyable winter of research and messing about in the garage.
