I was chatting to one of the security guards, asked him why he and the other 3 were needed.
His answer was that in Salisbury they are probably not needed, but in some parts of the country there have been attempts to steal the AZ vaccine to export it to other parts of the world, organised crime are behind the thefts.
There are also issues with Anti Vaxxer protesters trying to block entry to the centers.

We’ve been volunteering at a vaccination centre in Luton and there’s no security guards and there have been no problems at all. Everybody coming in has been courteous and grateful for the vaccine. We have a very large Asian population in Luton and from what I have seen uptake of the vaccine in this population is high.

That's good to hear. They were saying on the radio this morning that they were expecting an uptake of 75%, but in practice it's been over 90% of over 70's.

I had mine yesterday (AZ) and swmbo gets hers next Wednesday. We are in group 5 so things are progressing well here. We also had a monthly blood and swab sample taken earlier in the day as part of a survey we volunteered for. The nurse who takes it is brilliant. She covers a huge area though. This week she did Cardiff and Haverfordwest. I think Cardiff is a target area as it has a large multinational population so data for ethnic groups can be obtained easier. We are in a monthly sampling regime due to last 12 months. We also give details of our movements for contact with people when shopping, exercising, childcare etc.

Just had the pfizer one. A very well oiled machine. I arrived at 12 10 for a 12 20 slot but was sent straight through. a 2 minute wait, the jab & a 15 min wait. God bless the NHS

Had mine as arranged, slick, friendly and efficient.
But freezing:
The Cathedral isn't a well heated space at the best of times!

Listening to the magnificent organ in the Cathedral made it a special moment. I had the Astra Zenica version, so no post vaccine wait, but I waited anyway just to listen.
The South Salisbury Commissioning Group, who organised the Cathedral sessions, are running 2 to 3 weeks ahead of the NHS schedule.
Well Done to all involved, including my GP, Dr Paul Borrelli, who is retiring at the end of the month after 35 years as a local GP.
Thanks Paul!

They've just opened up vaccination slots to the over-65s in Gloucestershire on a self-booking service, which is nice.
