Ok i know theres a thread on track tyres but i am looking for some good all year tyres. At the moment the Avon ZZ3 is on the Aero 8 but on a few occasions the back end has gone very light at very low speeds. Also i took her on track a few weeks ago and she was very very skittish in the corners. I want something which will stick to the road and give you confidence in both wet and dry and on very sub standard roads (irish ones!). Is the avon the standard aero 8 tyre?

IMHO - it's not the tyres so much as an issue with the rear suspension. My Series 1 is the same. I think Eric S has a rear anti roll bar on his car?

Pirrelli are by far the best for all round general use imho.

Toyos are excellent, if a little soft (hence they do need replacing more often; however, the upside is amazing grip)

Great thanks for the suggestions. Can you give me the full names of the tyres, i am rather dumb when it comes to technical matters I do believe i had pirellis on the elise for a while and i couldn't be more impressed!

Jenny are you going to buy them in Ireland or next time you are in the UK? If you're going to do the UK route, then Micheldever in Winchester are always highly rated for price and knowledge.

Good point i would actually say the uk as the aero 8 is due for a service soon enough anyway! So i'd rather get someone who knows what they are doing to do it as i had enough problems here with the elise and they managed to rag the car and wreck the alloys. So lesson learnt

From peformance cars there are only a few tyres that would qualify against the criteria you set (namely great dry and wet performance). These would include (in order of preference);

- Michelin Pilot Sport 2 (most expensive, uses a twin compound tread with sticky rubber on the outer third of the tread face, and softer treaded rubber on the inner portion for the wet. This is a tyre that maintains its performance right down to a very low tread depth).

- Goodyear Eagle GSD-3 F1 (excellent tyre, much cheaper than the Michelin and achieves similar ratings in reviews, not quite as good in the dry but slightly better in the wet, particularly in acquaplane resistance)

- Pirelli Nero (long been a favoured after-market tyre, good performance on track and excellent wet weather performance, very progressive in giving up grip and confidence inspiring. Slightly more expensive than the Eagle F1s).

Overally I still prefer the Michelin PS2, they are fitted as standard to Porsche's GT3 and BMW's new M3, but the Pirelli and Goodyear get close to its performance for less money.

Ok i just checked the others. The sagaris has the eagle f1's which seem great. Though again on track in phoenix park when it was wet i was losing alot of traction anytime power was put down. But the track was being used for two days solid and there was dirty and grime everywhere so this was probably why.

I checked the elise and it uses bridgestone tyres which seem to hold on no matter how hard you throw it into a corner. Though i would guess this is just the way the elise is set up, also its so light and doesn't have half the power going through the tyres that the other two have.

So basically i really am going on everyones ideas and how they have found certain tyres on high bhp cars! Thanks all
