Previous comments on this forum suggested the sports exhaust is a good upgrade but the noise level can be tiring on a long journey. Would changing the manifold be beneficial if the standard exhaust system is retained?

Tom, if I may report my experiences, they are on my Sigma 4/4. The new Sport Manifold meant a big difference in torque and power. I left my exhaust standard after the new metallic catalytic converter so the car wouldn't be too noisy. I don't know if you can transfer this experience to a Plus4, but in principle yes, I think.

Thanks Heinz. That is very useful to know. The standard manifold does look as though it's designed for ease of manufacture rather than for efficient management of exhaust gases.

Yes, I agree. The standard manifold is not designed to achieve the best performance, but in the way that the standard catalyst connects very shortly after the manifold. The goal is exclusively that the catalyst is heated very quickly. All other objectives are secondary...including better performance yield.

On the other hand, it can happen that the ECU complains if the catalyst heats up slower when mounted farer away after a "correct" manifold. For this reason, I have wrapped the manifold with a thermal tape, so that the catalyst warms up faster.

[quote=John07]Here's my standard (for the moment!!) 2018 GDI, to me it looks the same as Alastair's car.
Cheers
John

That look like AllyMatts connectors. The one with the green/ lilac cable isn‘t connected.

On my MOG I can only see a connector in the same style isn‘t connected, but I can‘t see the cablecolours.

I changed the manifold for the Librands version last April, leaving the rest of the exhaust as standard. It has made a huge difference to the car, much more responsive, will actually do 30 mph in 4th and the fuel consumption has improved to an average 37 miles to the gallon. Yes you get a different engine note which I like and some pops on over run when changing down.
So far I have not gone for any ECU upgrade
2018 Plus4 so the GDI engine
