I think it's a sign of getting older Trevor. I spent two concentrated years on the BV8. With the benefit of hindsight I should have bought a Plus8 in 1986 instead of the MGB. Now I would still have it. Hey Ho. Now I don't mind dirty hands when I chose, but I'd rather be out on the road. Ruud - where are the oily stains on your outfit????

And the Malvern Roadster, storm in a tea cup if you ask me. One is a factory built car, the other will not have that pedigree. Some will care and some won't. You pay your money and buy what you want. Can't see what the fuss is myself? I almost understand that the factory may want to make a distinction between a US assembled version and one assembled at Malvern but if it is identical and the bodywork etc was done at the factory I would think it should carry the badge. I may be wrong but I don't think Morgan ever made an engine so the real morgan is one that had the rolling chassis and body built at Malvern. The chosen engine of the period was then dropped into place to complete the package. Or am I being too simplistic?

It is easy for us to agree why we like young trads and that the drivetrain does not define the "Morganness" of a Morgan. The question that we would need to ask ourselves is "how would you feel if the only morgan you could buy in your country was not called Morgan and was not sold through what used to be your dealer or importer" I think I would not be amused. It would help to know there was a very good reasons behind it and it made sense. (which if the story is true I am sure it will in the end) Cheers J

Ruud - that's more like it!! Colour coordinated with the Morgan I see! JJW - if I wanted a new Morgan and the only way was to buy a rolling chassis and have the engine fitted locally, that's what I would do. British Leyland used to export cars in CKD form (Completely Knocked Down)- which means crated components with fully assembled shells. Cars went all over the world like that for local assembly, so it's nothing new. Vast numbers of MG's were exported that way. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knock-down_kit

Hi Dave, I suppose those MG were sold as MG's, not as Abingdon Roadsters? But more importantly maybe, did those MG's come with factory support and the same warantee? In that case I agree, no problem. If not, I would at least hope to pay less. Cheers J

At least the bodywork on it will be made at Malvern.
