I was thinking earlier that the look of solar panels doesn’t seem to have moved on over the years - they are ugly looking things on a modern house and would be horrible on an historic property (if planning allowed). Anyway, I was wondering why they hadn’t started to blend in more, with roof tiles for instance, so had a quick look, and they do exist. Tesla make a version and they look a lot better than a standard solar panel. Anybody considered them? ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/04/28/A70E01AA-4163-44E4-B2E5-116274FEDCD7.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/04/28/9E649F10-7B70-46FA-B1A9-CB8D45AE096E.jpg)

Clipper no because the UK regs only pay you if you have 4 kW array or less. A roof full would be a hell of a lot more kWs. Though I do think the government should insist all new houses / building have built in PV solar.
Graham it is not just the fact it has been sunny it is the output generated. April has clearly less daylight hrs than June / July. This April we generated twice 26.2 kWh & once 26.3 kWh which is an all time record from my 3.9 kW array. The best before then was 26 kWh on 5/7/19.

That Tesla solar roof does not look too bad. Actually it looks quite good and would suit this are well where we have traditional rooves in split serpentine stone. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/04/29/20200429_114125.jpg) With an entire roof like that in the Tesla photo and a sufficiently large power wall you could probably be independent of the grid. Mind you the payback period would probably be a million years

Thousands of individual tiles with thousands of individual connectors up on your roof in all weathers for 50 years ....what could possibly go wrong ? ..... I'm sure Tesla have hugely confident sales talk about the magical technology in the connectors but I would take some convincing to put up that sort of money at this stage of the technology ...and I'm a fully convinced and engaged user of renewables.

My only experience is with a couple of nominally 12 volt, 130 watt PV panels on a yacht. Coupled to a multi-stage MPPT controller (which actually loads the panels to most efficient 18 volts) they regularly put close to 20 amps into the batteries which equates to comfortably over the rated 260 watts combined. Will admit this was in the Caribbean though

April 2020 generated power 505 kwh, the second highest April since we started in 2011. Our all time monthly high was July 2014 with 631 kwh.

Peter, April was 576.8 kW for us. April 2019 the only other year we have data for was 495.2 kW June 2019 was the high last year of 518.5 kW , so this April has beaten all records. John

John, excellent: our panels are not optimally aligned, facind SE, not south. Also they are 2010 technology. But the output has not degraded in 10 years, and we have not washed or cleaned them.
