I pushed my 3W forward in my garage today and found this mystery rubber bit in the spot where I was parked. I don’t have a lift so I haven’t had a chance to look at the underside. I’d say it was sitting directly under the gearbox. Definitely not in the rear by the wheel nor under the engine area. Right around the middle where the sheet metal is cut out and would allow something to fall through.

Any ideas welcome. Smooth and rounded on one side and broken up on the other - must be half or part of a bushing of sorts. It’s 1-3/8” tall.

I wasn’t successful in learning to post images yet... here’s two links for front and backside:

Certainly appears to be a piece of the one of rubber 'rollers' in the Centa coupling. Poke around in the inspection hole in bottom of the engine to gearbox adaptor and you will likely find more pieces. I hope for your sake I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be taking any long trips....

Time to get a Centa upgrade set up from Phil Bleazey

You definitely need to get that checked out before leaving on your drive to California in 2 weeks.

Certainly! I’m glad I’m seeing it now and not in the middle of my trip!!

Fortunately I was planning to have the car taken to my local dealer for some service items so I’ll be sure to have them investigate.

I’m guessing it would be wise to haul it up vs drive it? The dealer is <2 hours away but I’d hate to cause more damage and potentially delay my trip.

What’s the worst case scenario here? Engine removal for roller replacement? Seems like a labor heavy job for very few parts.

One of the cheap borescope camera's available on eBay and hooked up to your smart phone will allow a peek inside the Centa drive chamber via the inspection hole. As suggested almost certainly a roller breaking up and the rest will follow in short order.

Ouch - not seen a roller chunk that big come out!

FYI the forum needs an html address ending in a .jpg - so "open image in a new window" gives the embeddable URL...

thats a roller for sure. Engine out and replace all rollers. I personally would have the Bleazey conversion done at the same time.

Sadly this may mean a delay in the start of your trip
