What if anything do you dabble in, investment wise ?

This whole crypto currency thing intrigues me but I have no experience in it. Seeing how well Bitcoin has done has got me pondering how the heck its works?

I said to Treacle, ( I call her treacle cos she's sweet but doesn't move very fast . Lol ) Could I just make a crypto currency ? If I had say ten mates and I gave them each a code with a value to that code those ten mates could be free to trade among themselves, right ? But wouldnt that just be passing around free stuff ? Were does Crypto get its 'value' or worth. ?

Anybody do stocks ? Id like to dabble in that. Just small time, for fun, but again I have no clue. Im just a simpleton farmer rofl

Gold and silver seems a good option ? Maybe a few pieces of 8 would yield some return over few years.

Anyone dabble in the above or other stuff ?

Bonesie, over the years I, like many other on here I would suspect, have dabbled with the stock market but as a net looser in that field, I would advise great caution. Remember to only gamble an amount you can afford to loose otherwise it can get very painful!!! At least user your hard earned on cars, you get some pleasure back as your investment slowly disappears before your very eyes

I have dabbled in stocks. Now if I have spare "dabble money" I buy premium bonds.

As far as investing is concerned, I leave it to the experts and I pay them to do it for me. It takes a lot less of my time and gives results that are an order of magnitude better.

I wouldn't go near crypto with a barge pole.
Being retired I'm risk averse nowadays financially and tbh I haven't a clue how it works, a bit like the Musk at Tesla a total mystery to me involving many mirrors and smoke. That normally only ends up one way exting

St.James's Place, wealth management has and continues to serve us well via a local agent that we can meet up with on demand if necessary. SJP

We also invest a little on our own but can never compete with these people, just a happy customer, the growth from their varied portfolio throughout the Brexit debacle and Covid has really surprised and pleased us and their charges are very reasonable too.

Krugerrands will serve you well as will diamonds.
Buy treacle some proper jewellery and that way you are both happy thumbs be sure to keep your insurance valuations up to date though.

T`would be a brave man to try to provide investment advice in these times..?

For me an ideal would seem to be the possibility to try to preserve value in terms of savings that took a lifetime to create, also the possible effect on pension pay out relative to market fluctuations.

As for Bit Coin, right now it may be traded world wide and not tied to the debt to GDP ratio of any one country..? Apparently Bit Coin depends upon a great deal of electrical energy to maintain it`s digital processes.. with whatever issues you might care to apply to that...? I have read where it is compared to a Ponzi scheme but then it seems the Pound, Dollar and other Western currencies may be suffering a degree of confidence in their worth..? There is talk of money "printing" devaluing currency, but when was the last time you paid cash for anything, and what are the chances of the confidence in banknotes ever decreasing in this digital age..? Seems the creation of more money is but a few button pushes to create another bazillion ones and zeros and has been that way for some time now...?

Gold in any form..? Apparently during the Great Depression, to own physical gold was made illegal in the US (?) One was required to convert ones gold holdings back into Dollars through govt sources for a price dictated by the govt. As one might expect once the gold or as much of it they imagined they can gather in was back in the govt vaults the price of gold rose considerably....? These days it seems folk own gold certificates as opposed to the physical stuff, perhaps for convenience and imagined security..Hmm..?

I had them as a customer at the last place and you can be confident that their IT is well managed and secure. Nothing is perfect but they had a solid approach.

That is reassuring to hear, we have been with them for about twenty years now and they always seem to do things properly and in a straightforward manner which is comforting for us with all the current crop of fly by nights of recent times.

+1

That's who we use. Our advisor retired recently and handed us over to another advisor (with plenty of notice) - the process was seamless and painless which was comforting. I have been impressed with the way things have worked over the last year and even more impressed to get a call in October to say that the market trends were such they recommended some fund changes - all done with a Zoom call and by email and costs covered in our plan. We are already seeing the positive results of these changes.

I was intrigued more in how bitcoin comes about and how it works. I wouldn't invest in any though, too many variable to go belly up ?? Dunno.

I have a few bonds and they seem pretty safe though I have had zero returns on them :-( A mate has a significant amount of them and he seems to be doing well with them with good 'wins' from time to time.

Anyway. Im off to invest in a Chinese meal right now :-)
