Hello All,

I know it is called a foot 'well' but I was not expecting to find a source of water at its depth!



I'd noticed the damp carpet and took out the footlocker to investigate.

Here is an image after the locker had been out a while and I'd taken the car for drive to get some warm air into the footwell.



Even after a few dry days (the car is parked outside unfortunately) the left hand and forward edges are very damp. It is only the bottom couple of inches, higher up the walls, it is dry.

Is there any known issues (this is a 2014 Roadster) that anyone could suggest as possible cause?

Check the gaskets on the wiper bezels they perish & are a poor fit. They are from an MGB. I use black silicone to seal them on renewal. Grease the drive pinion where it comes through the bezel & fit an O ring in the groove.
It could be water from the heater box drain. You will find a spigot end on the housing low down near the bulkhead. It might be water coming in through the drain, older cars had pipes taking the water away. A cover over the heater inlet when parked might help but also check the drain holes on the box above the bulkhead are not blocked.

The two screws that hold the bonnet hinge on can be removed & clear silicone put in the holes before screwing up again.

I had exactly the same thing, also on a 2014 Roadster. The cause was reported as the failure of the factory to apply the necessary sealant in an area to the left side of the footwell.

I might be stating the obvious here but if its left outside do you use a waterproof cove Stevie?

I do sometimes use the waterproof cover Rob but mainly when really bad weather is forecast. I also have the smaller bonnet and hood cover which I plan to use more often now I've found this issue.

I've been on the waiting list for a garage for over 6 months

In the mean time how about an automatic bilge pump?

Do you ever notice any drips on the gearbox tunnel?

I do not believe I've noticed any issues around the gearbox tunnel, it seems pretty localised to the left and front lower edges.

I once had water ingress due to loose windscreen washer jets. in this case, water dripped down onto the scuttle bar and then onto the gearbox tunnel. Yours though, looks to be a lot further forward, so heater box could well be the culprit. I assume you don’t need to top up your coolant tank...which might signify a leak on the heater matrix?
