Personally, I would rather have no savings and a 3 wheeler to drive than have a lot of savings and no 3 wheeler to drive! You know the old saying, you only go around once!

Always get some savings first!
Without savings you hardly get a 3Wheeler.
Best to have a 3Wheeler and savings.

Took circa five years of savings to buy my Mog back in 2002, the idea of indebtedness to spend on toys does not sit well with me, but when I look at the debt to GDP figures of the UK etc, or indeed the average household debt of the UK population... It seems I may be in the minority..?

As for the "investment" potential of retro ICE machinery, I think I have expressed my thinking on that elsewhere. In reality I have zero investment or creative accounting experience so what do I know..?

I have a really simple financing method

If I can't afford it - I can't have it

Scenario 1 - save for your Morgan for five years, get the £17K needed (or probably more as the value may increase year on year), get hit by a bus and die miserable knowing you've got a stack of unspent money in the bank and no Morgan.

Scenario 2 - get the £17K on tick, pay the same amount you'd put into savings each month (or possibly less, as the Morgan value may go up more than the 3% interest), get hit by the bus, and die happy knowing you've been driving a Morgan for the last 5 years.

Exactly, my maternal Grandmother's sage advice ''if you haven't got the brass in your pocket you can't afford it'

All sage advise except with fixed interest rates at historic lows, lower than when your Grandmother gave her advise, the money you have sitting in your accounts that you would have used to buy the "toy" can be used to make money and still buy the "toy". So another piece of sage advise can be "money makes Money" but only if you allow it too.

I've now lived thru 6 economic bubbles and serious crashes, numerous housing booms and crashes and untold stock market bull and bear runs to know that 'cash will always be king' when push comes to shove. I've always come out of a recession ahead of the game.

All I can say is that I have made more money through the 2008 crash up until today than ever before, role on the next crash. I agree cash is king but make it work for you.
