I´m 51 an I think thats far to young to quit motorcycling. I hope I can do it the next 25 years.
For the older ones, maybe a lighter but characterful bike would be ideal? Maybe a vintage bike or a Royal Enfield Bullet?

The two fast bikes Ive had have been a Gixxer and an R6, both stupidly fast ( for me ) but I think the Yammy DRZ 400 was the most fun as the power and style of the bike suited my skill level more than the road bikes I could crack on through the gears and not get out of my depth too much. The two bikes above, well, you know The buzz for me wasn't ever about absolute top speed but how I got up to speed. I cant recall ever making a leisurely pace from the lights Unless the PoPo were in sight Lol :-)

Not sure what could replace your bikes for 'the buzz', Howard ?

I thought I'd try to cut down on my motorcycle collection, I had 3 Harley Davidsons and a Honda Goldwing squeezed into the garage at one time.
I have decided to sell and make room several times now, but as soon as I get the money in my pocket I find I'm trawling Ebay looking for a replacement

There is a freedom about a motorcycle that cannot be replicated by anything else!
Trouble is I seem to need a big one for touring, a sports one for dashing about on and a nice medium sized classic. If I don't have all 3 then I feel I'm missing out

I've just bought an imported 1974 Honda CB450 classic, I told my wife this will be the end now, I'll not be wanting anything else...…….. But I find I'm still looking through the classifieds

I agree but perhaps a lot is dependant on where you live. If I still lived in North Scotland I would most likely still have a bike of some sort. Where I am here in Surrey its just no fun. :-(

I bought a brand new HD a few years ago. Put 600 miles on it and swapped it for a watch and a couple of K Couldnt get on with it, too slow, too agricultural

Must have been a long time ago then Bonesie, they are anything but slow now a days

The new Royal Enfields are nice.

But I‘ve got a Harley (a2002 FXDX). She‘s got a very low „Schwerpunkt“. So to ride her it‘s like to play with a 50ccm Moped.

Have a try with one the older with the two dampers in the back, and beware - the Sportsters are VERY different.

NS: I also had a look at a 3w in cause they are a little Harley. But to expensive and need more an eye on it as it looks.

Bonesie, with my previous bike, a BMW 1100S I also found I was riding it too fast; Bought a Harley FLSTC and that knocked about 40km/h across my average speeds with no loss of pleasure!

I also, finally, gave up biking last year.
After 20+ years of working for Heron Suzuki and Suzuki GB, I had the opportunity to ride and own quite a few interesting bikes!
Nearing retirement I treated myself to a Ducati 999S. (Absolutely glorious bike. Monoposto, 140+bhp, Termignonis, Ohlins etc)
Deciding to slow down, my final bike was a Triumph Bonneville.
It was OK, but had no excitement. I sold that last year and don’t miss it.
I look longingly at fast Ducatis, but know, deep down, that my reactions are just not good enough now.

Still, plenty of memories and still loads of mates from my biking days.
