IcePack I suspect that the whole discussion on the monetary value of classic cars can develop into a can of worms when trying to reach any kind of real world assessment..? It seem so many buy into the idea of value retention, or investment potential, as opposed to just the pride of ownership and enjoyment which the vehicle can provide for an enthusiast owner...?
As you raise the subject of Porsches and that this is a Morgan forum it seems logical to compare the two in terms of general evaluation relative to market impressions which seems a bit of a David Vs Goliath situation in terms of marketing alone, to the extent that the hyperbole around Porsche as a marque seems to be perpetuated by owners with an eye on value retention/ investment potential, and the company` marketing strategy over the years has ensured that the brand will prevail in the minds of the general public and buyers alike. For sure Morgan have their share of "foibles" but Porsche were not as perfect as so many imagined them to be.
I guess the bottom line is that of the way a classic Porsche might be valued against a similar year Morgan and how that might have varied over the years both relative to average earnings, and the value of the Pound relative to the difference in what it can buy today compared to the timescale involved...?
If you are in the mood for some Porsche hype on values you might like to beam up the vid in the link below.
https://youtu.be/_TxeaKLeMsQPorsche as currency....hmm..? Well I guess the Pound and Dollar might be suspect given all of the so called money printing that Covid has created. That we have evolved to become almost a cashless society I doubt there were any printing presses working overtime when a few extra digits by way of ones and zeros are fired out of some computer somewhere and the economy is saved...for the time being..? Perhaps having a Classic in the garage is a reasonable hedge on inflation...or not...?
