I used to have a 1997 +4 - T16 engine but never had this problem.

Still have various guides & manuals in pdf, if you are interested PM me with your email and I will happily send you copies

Enjoy the car, I certainly did.

Update

Thanks all for the advice so far. I have ordered the plugs, leads and coil and will report back soon. The pipe from the manifold was damaged and is now good. The fuel is new. The car runs much better already. It is not yet perfect so we shall see what différence new ignition parts will make.
