Not forgetting the additional safety of reflective plates on a low car with all those distracted SUV drivers, playing with their digital dashboards, in car entertainment and mobiles

I got a set here

https://www.platesforcars.co.uk/

I carry the proper ones in the back, just in case. When stopped I will either get asked to swap them at the road side with a slap on the wrist or be given a 100 quid fine. drive

Running them is a risk of course if you get stopped by the Popo. I would also agree that driving at night might pose a safety issue, (but in two years of ownership ive not once driven at night)
I would have to disagree with those that say they dont suit the car though hide

My first driving expierence in a MOG was that I realize Germany is a third country.

I was on the road in Britain in a hired MOG. Once on the promenade in Hastings a police car turns and follows me.
It took only a few seconds I had some „special effects“ behind me. Flashing blue lights and Sirene.

I must stop and the officers want to see my paperwork. As the MOG was registrated just this morning they think I‘m on the road with an unregistrated and uninsurancend car. As I learned in the evening from the man in our B&B: a lot of British policecar can read numberplates and give the officers a signal when there is something wrong.

So I think to enjoy classic numberplates would be a short time fun.

Many Police cars are fitted with ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) and can instantly tell if a vehicle is taxed, MOT'd and insured. Quite a good system and it works automatically. However it can take a few days for a new car to be on the system for things like road tax and insurance...

As long as the numberplate is 'readable' by the ANPR technology, I doubt you'd get a stop for a metal plate.

Some of the more basic ANPR systems (carparks) are unable to read black and silver plates. Had a real issue trying to leave a carpark in Stratford. In the end, the annoyed driver in the car behind pulled up really close behind me, it picked up his plate and I escaped. Not sure how he got out....

No disrespect meant if the black and silver look is your thing - I know many who like it - just to my eyes it doesn't look "right" on a more modern car. If the plate was of the dateless type i think it would look OK .

Good illustration of clear and amber indicators too i guess.

I prefer the clear indicators, but agree the Black plates look a bit gash.

I see the B/S plates as a bit of a 'right of passage' - earned by putting up with a classic vehicle and all its associated maintenance and foibles smile smile

My view is that Black and Silver plates look great on a Morgan only if you have an "Ageless" numberplate. With modern plates they look out of place.
ANPR cameras don't care as long as the plate can be easily read.
Police Officers may care if they are bored or annoyed with life.

A Morgan might get away with the old style plates as the car looks old anyway. The ANPR readability is a possible downside ( or upside in some circumstances winky)
The failure to register on ANPR is a reason to be stopped and further checks made.
You take a chance so can’t complain if caught out unless you are an entitled numpty.

Black and white non reflective plates don't read on ANPR.

I wonder why that is as the channel tunnel and the Dartford crossing have no problem?
