My 'screen has suddenly cracked from top to bottom on the passenger side without any known impact and for no other apparent reason. I have been quoted £840 plus fitting for a replacement which seems excessive (for comparison, a similar size heated screen for an MGB is available from Moss Europe for around £250). Has anyone else had the misfortune to have to replace their screen and is this price correct? If so, it would appear that it is not just the "ambulance chasers" who are ripping off the insurance companies and ultimately, their customers.

Simmonds have these - they seem a bit cheaper at about £532 plus fitting for £100 plus vat

Hi Max

Yes your quote is about the rate.
Mine went under warranty in similar circumstances to yours and I was advised by my (good)agent to claim on Insurance which meant it cost me £50 excess and a 3 Month wait for the ex factory unit.
I could have had an unheated one fitted locally for £140 which I will do next time and take a flyer on the MOT as I believe that with no Heater vents up to demist the screen it would not pass. In the event it didn't I shall fabricate some.

Enjoy your miles.

Morganner, That's an interesting one: mine has its test always without the screen, just the aero's fitted. Meabh.

Thanks for all the responses. They make interesting reading. If it takes three months to get a factory replacement I will probably fall into the category of "former Morgan owners"!.

I have just gone through the suggested thread and I am not happy about the inconsistency of responses from MMC. I have forwarded the thread to my dealer, suggesting a warranty issue and I await their response with interest. I have to say that they have always given 100% support in the past.

I've been wondering...there have been so many 4/4 SPORT windscreen cracks...........I notice that the sport cars (with no spare wheel) lack a whole stiffening cross member thingy at the back of the car. Quite alot of the normal structure is just not there.........could these cars be flexing more than ordinary cars and stressing the windscreen. I wonder if the factory has considered the effect of removing so much framework at the rear?

Nick and all
A missing stiffening cross member could be a relevant issue. Is this item really in such an important function or is it just there to make the job as a sparewheel holder?

Is someone aware if the Roadster Sport is also missing this item? And as a reference representing the state of the art, I´m wondering if the +4SS comes with or without this cross member.

IF, and only if it should be relevant I would immediately sacrifice the won space in the back of the Roadster Sport and would instead let install such a cross member to prevent any future faults ref the wind screen or too much body wear in general. I guess it should be possible to install this stiffening cross member afterwards?

Thanks,
Heinz

Don't know who told you that, but I shouldn't listen to any more of there advise as they have no idea what there talking about, there is nothing in the MOT about windscreen demisting.
