through the desert on a horse with no name

Last ride of the season for me early may - took it deep into the desert. Pretty sure no other Morgan has ever been in such exotic places. I'm working around the idea of crossing the Arabian peninsula in it in early spring or early autumn. Saudi Arabia has some incredible roads. That should rival some of fantastic adventures on TM :-)

Yes that would be something. Will you use that paint the car drivers use to protect the paint at the front?

Frankly speaking the sand of the desert does what it wants no matter how much we try to protect it. If the paint suffers so be it. I use things - things brake - I fix them and curse when paying the bill - I use things ... rinse and repeat :-).

Many years ago a group of us were driving our Morgans through Death Valley, the weather reports had strong winds for early afternoon so most of us stopped to take shelter. One intrepid Morganeer drove on, when we reached the hotel that evening his Morgan had been truly through the sand blaster with all the front and bonnet paint removed plus pitted windscreen, costly drive.

Yes you see cars in Dubai come up from Saudi & either they have this special like underseal paint. nose covering or are bare metal shiny when the sand storms are about.

In South West Africa we all had a padded pvc cover on the front end to stop the sand blast effect.

They worked too, but the area in front of the rear wheel and sills was usually bare metal on our Monaro out there on the dirt roads.

That GTS was one car I wish we had kept, well along with the SE5a Scimitar GTE...
