In the M/Cycle world Mobil 1 was always the go to oil. According to a pal who used to run the QC side of the Mobile oil blending plant near Liverpool the oil has changed as technology has improved but it is still the best synthetic oil available. One of the tests they had was to run a test engine for 30 minutes and then dump the oil and measure time to seizure. Mobil 1 was usually 25 to 30% longer that equivalent oils. I asked him how this could be: he answered that it was the additive technology and the mix of hydrocarbons, all synthetic, that made the difference and why it was always expensive.
