Fair play to MMC who have checked out the ECU, found no issues with it (as it worked fine on their "donor" vehicle that they do the ECU flash with) - and got it back to me very quickly, with a direct phone number to call if/when I needed further assistance.
I refitted it to my +4 as soon as DHL delivered it this morning and lo and behold, it works! The starter fired up the engine, much to my delight and relief, but also confusion - as we don't really know how or why the fault has been resolved. I was expecting to have to trace a dodgy connection in the starter circuits somewhere, under the direction of the MMC technical dept, over the phone. I called them anyway to thank them and tell them the good news - they suggested taking it to the factory service dept sometime for them to check over. We will see if the fault recurs, which obviously I hope it doesn't, especially given I have no intentions of meddling with the contents of the fuse/electrical box contents ever again - apart from checking/changing fuses.
On an even brighter note, I took it out for a quick half hour drive in the warm sunny weather and it drives rather better with the "enhancement flash" - Throttle response seems more progressive and less over-sensitive pulling away. I'm looking forward to seeing how it feels and drives on longer trips.
The MMC service department told me that although they will offer this enhancement flash service on GDI +4s, it will have to be done at the factory rather than by sending the ECU to them like I, and others, have done - the reason being that they will soon not have a donor car on which to carry out the work. The cost will also be going up - how much was not mentioned, but I paid £300. The fact that they kind of admitted that the "enhancement flash" is how it should have been set up in the first place, rather than using the Ford standard version, is a bit irksome to me. But then I suppose that running a Morgan was never going to be cheap...

That's great news Keith.
The biggest benefit is the loss of the hair trigger sensitivity. If only MMC had made it like this in the first place the GDI would have had a much enhanced reputation, all for the sake of saving a few quid.
Next time you go out, give it some beans and it will fly.
Maybe you just disturbed something and second time put it back............

I'm hoping it will be better for my better half to drive as well - the over sensitive throttle was going to take some explaining to her, I suspect! Giving it some beans! As if I needed any excuse!! Yes, I suspect a dodgy connection that was corrected randomly - a bit worrying, but we will see. Thanks for your support, Dave.

Is there a possibility to tell the difference once its installed, maybe through OBD readout?

I have a 2017 GDI and never understood what is meant by this hair-trigger sensitivity. My throttle feels normal, progressive.
The only thing I don't really like about the engine is that is feels a little lazy to rev and needs a lot of throttle to drive a little 'sporty'.
Could it be that they had changed the ECU mode already in 2017?
I have not driven the Plus Four, but can imagine the BMW setup will feel far more effortless.

Hello Thomas,
the usual, unflashed Morgan feels tired up to 3500revs.
If you had a look at the torquecurve ( there was one graph posted here at TM) you see there is some torque up to 2000/2500 and than it falls! and had its deepest!! point. If you give the car more throttle at this point it‘s a little like you brake and than about 3500revs it wakes up and hurry on.
With the „mild“ (called enhanced at MMC) Flash you get without any other thing changed always a very nice throttleresponse.

Here's the dyno curve for my Plus 4, with "enhancement flash" and the Librands manifold/cat fitted: ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/11/10/Power-graph-GDI-Librands-manifoldcat-enhancement-flash.jpg) So a smooth, progressive curve. It's much nicer to drive now compared to the original map with stock manifold/cat - it pulls well from lower revs.

Hi Keith, Thank for the graph. There is also a graph in TM with only the enhanced flash (no manifold or other things changed) vs. the the Standard factory GDI. The standard torquecurve is a thing for some points. If you want to frustrate a driver, do it in this way. Greets René just found: http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/604143/plus-4-gdi-librands-manifold-clubsport-remap
