I had to have a new engine when the sump plug departed company doing 95mph, saw the blue smoke and immediately stopped but too late terminal damage done. It only takes a few seconds for the S&S engine to cook when running hot in my case it was cheaper to buy a new engine than rebuild the old (my insurance company Hagerty covered the cost) You got lucky! as far as the insurance... One of the benefits with Hagerty is that parts are covered, the engine cost $10,000 after I paid my $1000 deductible they paid me $9000 the premium didn't go up either.

Yes, you have one of the earliest types of oil cap with integral dipstick. They are fine and the 0-rings do not deteriorate. However, you do need to keep an eye on the oil tank itself as they have been known to leak oil from the end plate welds and in some extreme circumstances blow the end plate off completely! I reckon this only happens when a fastidious owner tops up the oil tank after the car has been standing for a long while, not realising that a couple of litres of the oil is actually in the engine sump (i.e. wet sumping).

Now the question is what to replace it with?
A regular o-ring should do the work if I can find the right size? Or should I order parts from MMC?

I have a 2012 so pretty early car...
I was thinking to source a O-ring and then just change the bolt to a shorter one and tighten with some sealant?? Or is there any ventilation purpose with the bolt/rubber/nut design?

You maybe have a 2012 car Swedewheeler but it looks like you have a later oil tank as that cap is from a later type. The early tank has a dipstick in the cap, as well as an O ring seal. Many early tanks have been replaced as they had oil leaks from the end plate welds.
If you fit a new seal made from some oil resistant rubber sheet and retained with a large penny washer, as in the photo in my earlier post, that will fix this problem. All caps should have been modified by now but that relies on the owner either doing it or taking it to a dealer that knows what they are supposed to do.
