Whilst I understand the nostalgia and the desire for a classic car (in general) surely the "ultimate spec +8" has got to be the 380bhp modern car with ABS airbags (I am assuming here) and all the more modern accoutrements? As such I'm with you Brian I understand that price may be an issue and that the Moss box +8 is very desirable for historical reasons etc but the question was what's the ultimate spec? One off's are a different matter (Le Mans, GM engined) and I guess slip under the radar but for me I'd still prefer a factory spec uptodate powerful beast, and I personally like the thought that my car has a BMW engine for the reputation that it carries. Now "which is the most desirable Morgan?" will be a completely different prospect to different people. However for a man of my calybre (for which, read, can barely change the oil and would hate to have to fettle before going for a drive) . The answer is obvious: there's one in my garage
Cheers

Nah.... The new Plus8 is an Aero derivative so doesn't have the right chassis or level of rawness. It may be in the running for 'ultimate spec Aero8' but not (I suspect) for most Trad fans.

As always it depends what you want. If, like many trad owners, you're after a more vintage experience then a modern car is not what you'd want at all. A narrow bodied one with a 5 speed conversion for me too please.

But in the context of "what is the ultimate spec +8" asked in the trad forumi it's not a +8 is it
It's an Aero or perhaps more accurately what our German friends would describes as a Luxe. No doubt a desirable car in it's own right - Although for me the first of the Luxes that I could not see myself owning.
The Bill Fink +8+ is not a one-off BTW. I am not sure how many have been built but I believe it is in the upper teens.
I would agree you could argue whether the +8+ is a +8 (indeed a subject that makes the wires v alloys arguments consensual). But with a standard Morgan body, standard chassis, identical dimensions, same front suspension, same interior etc. It still gets my vote.

Surely to be consistent, the former eMog massive should say it is a kitcar as it has an American engine installed in America and not at the Works?

What is the ultimate spec Morgan Plus 8?
Hmmm, interesting question and one that really boils down to personal opinion.
The first question is, how do we define a Plus 8 - is it a factory produced, unmodified, vehicle or one that an aftermarket tuner has worked their magic on (or worst case, butchered!)
Personally, I'd love to have the first Plus 8 which rolled off the production line - the history of that vehicle would be nice to see parked in my garage and enjoyed on a regular basis.
In terms of the ultimate drive, I wouldn't know because I haven't the experience behind the wheel of the +8; however, based on my experience with the SS, I love the feeling of a track fettled Morgan. So my vote would be for a rapid engine, excellent adjustable suspension, sports exhaust (so that I can hear the engine rumble) and a nice induction kit.

When is a Mog not a Mog? don't know and (don't care much TBH) eMog is no more, so have no idea what the "eMog massive" would say - when it had 2 or 3 thousand members I would imagine that there would have been 2 or 3 thousand different opinions. But whatever the discussion, I am sure that because the engine was American and the work done in America would not have been relevant.
