Ray

My friend John Merton in Oz who owns 2 Series 1 4/4s, and is a lurker on this forum , sent this to me overnight:-

Saw this on Talk Morgan. Robert Davies may have answered by now.

The Front suspension cross tube assemble has two triangular flanges which are bolted to the chassis rails. The Burman Douglas steering box is bolted to the flange just above the top chassis rail and there should be holes for this to ensure alignment there are tapered brass spacers under the head of each fastening bolt. At the top end the column bolts to the underside of the sloping section of the scuttle. I used something I had lying around but that's about half a century ago.

But stress the important point. You need to establish correct positioning and alignment by locating and fastening the wooden dashboard and feeding and centralising the column through its hole in the dashboard.

On a pedantic point every Series 1 both pre- and post- war was a 4/4 and this has been sustained by legal precedent. 4-4 along with a number of other descriptions was an advertisingband promotional term but Morgan never produced a 4-4 vehicle.
