I was being lazy when I referred to smog I should have referred to air quality, in December 2020 a coroner Philip Barlow, the inner south London coroner has made legal history by ruling that air pollution was a cause of the death of a nine-year-old girl. .............I agree the urban obsessiveness will run the narrative, I would suggest in addition to air quality pollution, we will soon be feeling the effects of restrictions on noise pollution and the noisy ICE will be in for a tough time. There already exist restrictions on vehicle noise in London at certain times of day. When we operated twin turbo prop HS 748 aircraft 30 odd years ago, we had to fit 'hush kits' for evening freight and Royal Mail operations and could never get permission to fly into Heathrow............too noisy.

There is a post in Pistonheads where noise detection cameras are being tested. Similar to speed cameras they would snap an offending vehicle. I don’t know what the trigger level is. I would guess that the limit would have to be a broad compromise due to noise outputs within Construction and Use specs for cars and commercials. The calibration would be interesting to see as well. Average over a predetermined time? Instantaneous? Will the MOT be changed to test each car versus it’s stated spec or versus a limit, as per emissions? The IVA test for kit cars has such a test. It is done outdoors in an open area with nouse meters at prescribed positions.
The M4 section that is raised as it goes over Port Talbot has always been a 50mph zone from opening to reduce noise levels for the houses below it. I broke down on it once! Scary due to nowhere to move to. The hard shoulder had a 4’ wall with a big drop beyond. It was noisy and I had to shout down the phone.

Just to add...
I have had an email from Shell. V-Power will contain 5% . I have been using it in the Plus8 for a while. The Rover V8 ENGINE is ok but the rubber containing components such as pump, fuel hoses etc MAY not be. The Morgan data on the .gov site is non committal on older cars due to the engine variants used and warns of non ethanol resistant ancillaries.

Well I can see myself booking a holiday in a country without the EU standard applying like the USA or China to hire myself a V8 driving holiday if they progress this route here tbh.
Maybe tie it it in with a trip to the Reno Air Races before they ban them.

Too many things to think about in an ever more uncertain future.

Have just dropped Belle off at the local garage for the MOT & service. The very excited mechanic loved the start button. It always make me grin as well.

I'd recommend NZ they have some fabulous roads, spectacular scenery, welcoming people, good food and drink and great V8 cars.........
