Whilst I enjoy my V6 Roadster mainly for its lugging power and its mid range overtaking power. Once moving it can pull 5th from just above 1000 rpm which helps do away with constant up and down the gearbox when in slow moving traffic. Very useful and important if you have a weaker left knee when it comes to gear changing.

I do miss the perceived lightness and agility of my 4/4 but not miss the constant up and down on the gearbox to keep it in its power range, often feels like too much hustle for very little bustle

I like gears so much I'm having an extra one fitted smile

I imagine its my biking heritage that has driven my love of using gears to keep an engine 'on song'.

What’s the point of will I am? I can’t imagine who, other than his own chums, would be influenced by him. Reminds me of that advert with the grinning fool “Ryland” , car buying for those soft in the head.
One car i increasingly notice on the roads which I think looks decent and the polar opposite of these big things is the Dacia Duster, even the name is cool. The brand ambassador would be a tricky choice, needs to be someone whose opinion matters, maybe Plato or Aristotle if they’re available? They might be total rubbish and perhaps not even very efficient, but if you need a utility car and kept it till it dropped dead, it would be reasonably kind to the planet. I spoke to chap on my road trip who was already on his third Tesla, that doesn’t sound to me like a low carbon footprint.

Not my place to criticise though, I’ve driven well over a thousand miles this week for nothing but pleasure, in a car which is useless for anything else.

That'll be a lot better for your touring, is that the Sierra box/Type 9 or have I got that wrong..

Ewn ... the Duster sounds cool because it shares its name with some cool things ..... this was my Nephew's missus's wheels until just recently 🙂

[Linked Image]

Think I said before that I'll believe they're serious about EV when they bring out an electric Dacia Duster for under 10 grand for ordinary folk rather than over-specced and pointlessly fast electric luxury barges for the well-heeled.

Nothing wrong with enjoying cars .... now the Duster's gone the poor Girl has had to fall back on her reserve motor ..... rat rod Ford Falcon with a Boss Mustang under the bonnet ... tough old life 😁

Well this thread puts me in a bad place oops

I am not going to even try and defend the totally daft waste that these cars represent. The massive complexity and long term running costs make you think twice when your computer controlled suspension fails and makes it float like an 80's Cadilaxitive with no shockers. Then asks for £3k to fix it! Thank heavens for MB warranties.

I think that will be lovely when it is two+ years old, falls off it's PCP (or the way-to-rich owner gets bored of his new toy or sees another one coming the other way) and it is less than half's its price. I will keep my eyes open having had a good line of plummeting AMG's

CL600 (£120k new and I bought it almost three years old for £40k) with it's daft 5.5 biturbo V12.
The current ML63pp which was £110k new and £38k to me with 12k miles two and a half years old.
An E63s estate which was the perfect sleeper as it looked like every Taxi in the area.

They can never match the enjoyment of the Coupe or S2 but for a daily rumble they are great. The hybred thing is a knee jerk due to global emmissions targets, corporate guilt and because they can give it 800+bhp in the german arms race to 1000hp. Oh and Tesla with their Max Plad moments.

I spoke to a friend who likes to do the same with sports cars. Aston V8, Maserati, Jag F-V8 and several others all bought cheap and run for 12 months to have fun. He bought an early AMG GT coupe last year and is keeping it for another year. His comment was "this things is nuts. It makes you laugh every time you get a chance to give it a squirt. The noise is hooligan and it is built out of granite."

As pointed out above the little 660 3 pot Caterham is more valid for the future but I love AMG products for no nonsense ground coverage. Once depreciated.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Correct. I avoid motorways as I find them boring, as I said, I like using the gears/steering, but there are times when I'm bimbling along at 60/65 it will be great to have that extra gear for more relaxed motoring.
