In my adolescence I lived in Hertfordshire. An exciting childhood near Watford, among other Oxhey morons... There was a chap who used to go into a pub in Watford High Street near the Benskins brewery every lunchtime. He would down nine tots (ie three pints) of Colne Spring Ale and then walk away without bumping into the street furniture. Very impressive.

Conveniently the hospital was across the road but is now probably closed.

Yes John it's an in town Sainsbury's now and the hospital is vastly improved and has a new build ( 5yrs ish ) out by B & Q so handy for hip replacement odds and ends if they run out of bits.

You wouldn't recognise the place now the expansion is incredible but unlike our locality it has affordable housing at present which is great for the younger workforce just setting out.

It's East Street that Heather's great grandfather lived and worked as a Journeyman Shoemaker so he will have supped at the Cider bar for sure.

Ridgways shoes (opposite the library) finally closed last year and we went along and Heather managed to buy 4 pairs and I managed to get a pair of trainers under duress, it was a bit sad really as we often used the shop as they specialised in the good quality German brands that Heather likes.

I must get down there sometime Rich to see the old hunting grounds. I know last time I was horrified to see my Grandparent council retirement house was now a block of flats near Paignton zoo. Such is progress.

Yes it is . My gran & I used to wander via the staff entrance into the zoo. She did the confused old lady act & I was a very confused lad. Quite a shock to see the rebuild on Hayes Rd as the family name is Hayes & I assumed at 3 years old it was built specially for us along with the special zoo entrance. laugh2

Nice story thumbs and good memories.

I expect you heard they had to shut down Living Coast and sell the site, another side effect of Covid.

Topic drift is sometimes very interesting. I did not expect to get to Scrumpy. If I may get back on topic, my new battery may be delivered tomorrow morning. And perhaps it will work. Tomorrow occasionally gets mildly better.than yesterday.

I knew there was a reason we spoke the same language Peter..
I grew up just down the road in Harrow

The chap you speak of could well have been my grandfather

Knowing him, he was probably out on test drive of a Jaguar when he got thirsty…. innocent

In my first encounters in a pub it was sold in small crown cap bottles and only the real piss artists drank it being 7.5%.. It is presently sold in 330ml gold cans..
