If its the car with the full height windscreen I'd ask the dealer to treat it with Rainex or similar, either that or take your own.

By the way how do Morgan get away with fitting a full height screen without wipers ?

Even though school holidays are over, M5 from Tiverton to Gordano has seen dreadful queues northbound on Saturdays, week after week. So good advice to avoid at weekends and stick to A roads. I also think first trip in a M3W over that distance may get a bit wearing on the ears etc, so better to have more stopping opportunities.

Wow such support! Thanks everyone. Will be avoiding motorways on this trip. Drove up from Brighton last night in that atrocious rain and whilst sitting happily in the inside lane of the M23, hit deep water and had the biggest aquplane of my life moment. Opposite lock both ways but fortunealy both front wheels hit water at vaguely the same time and before I completely lost it the tarmac came back enough to give some grip.

I will prepare a conversion to my regular car trailer for a three wheeler recovery and hope by doing that it guarantees it won't be needed! Can you imagine the look on the wife's face if she drove a long way to recover me and we couldn't get the car on the trailer due to the wheels configuartion!

I must confess this was an impulse buy at a boat show so no test drive taken so really will be a baptism of soggy fire. A big adventure! If we can keep warm (and pointing forwards) then nothing else really is a problem. The gauntlet gloves sounds sensible. I know my rain suits are very good for keeping out water.

I don't recall there being a cigarette lighter in these cars. Is that correct? With a teenager on board, having a phone charger will be critical! Plus she is my navigator for the trip so need to keep her sat nav alive.

Car has just the aero screens not full height screen. I prefer that look.

Am hoping my longer legs will not suffer too badly on this trip as when sitting in the car with the pedal box as far back as it could go, that was the only noticeable issue. I have a plan in case it is an issue but fingers crossed it won't be.

Is it the green one with sharks teeth at Berrybrook? If so it looks pretty good and with some useful updates. It also looks like it may have a post 2014 chassis? I assume from the spec that it has been owned by a more enthusiastic owner, rather than spent several years hidden away in a garage, always a bonus. People only tend to make comments when things go wrong. there are a lot of things that can be done to reduce the chances of breakdowns from Morgan designed faults. As for the potentially wet drive home, keep the aquaplane hazard in mind and don't stop unless you have to, you get really wet when stationary. Most M3W 's have a cigarette socket to power accessories at the bottom edge of the dash. These can easily be replaced with a proper double USB socket, more useful and just a few pounds on eBay.

If you haven't driven the car yet make sure that the pedals are adjusted to your height first. My first drive was a bit of a challenge as I found myself too tall for the pedal set up and so it got very uncomfortable very quickly.

Thats the one Planenut, yes from what I have subsequently researched it does seem to have some good bits on it. I am told it has had the chassis swap too. I spent more time looking down the footwell than anything else in the short time I was with the car! Pedal box cannot go back anymore unfortunately. However from my amateur engineering viewpoint having played building cars since I was 19, I believe it should be possible to fabricate a new pedal box with a narrower base so it goes back more, then to use vertical master cylinders operated by rockers and to use splayed pedals to keep your pedal spacing. Metal fabrication and some basic geometry to keep pedal pressures etc sensible. Whether I do it remains to be seen. Be nice not to need to! I wear 32inch long trousers (hopefully not tmi!) so time will tell.

Malcolm, just another hint - wear the narrowest shoes that you have, those pedals are very close together.

Personally I would take A30 (as opposed to the A303) with a few stops to warm up with a coffee esp as you will be new to the car. Done plenty of motorways/dual carriageways but flowing A/B roads (or N/D in France) are the best for an M3W.

You may find a spacer on the steering wheel is easier than messing about with the pead box - we both wear 36 inside leg trousers and a 50mm spacer works well. Echo Taffmog comment on narrow shoes. Enjoy the trip!!

The spacer is something I will look into. Googling M3W pedalbox you read more about spacers for the steering wheel than anything about the pedal box! Won't reinvent the wheel if an easy solution is out there.

Small roads are looking more likely as the weather forecast seems to be getting even worse for saturday! Note to self, when at a boat show, buy a boat not a car!
