Agreed on WAIS Colin, much more useful. When I did my psychology degree we were told in no uncertain terms that the only thing that IQ reliably measured was one’s ability to do IQ tests. Easily tweaked through training too, I got mine from 142 to 170 just through practising. load of old toss if you ask me.

What a clever bunch we are to be sure!
I'd never heard it called "corrected" Or I've forgotten which isn't very impressive of me.
I too joined Mensa many years ago mainly because Leslie Charteris the author of the Saint books I loved so much as a lad was a founding member.
It was the most boring club I've ever joined. I stuck it out for a couple of years before throwing the monthly mag on the fire one night, outraged at the self promotion it contained.

I think my IQ has gone steadily down since then!

I also remember someone saying to me that we think we are intelligent. Why not try going into the outback with a non reading, writing etc. Aborigini and see who is the more intelligent there.

Yes there are many incredibly sharp people out there that have been lucky enough to not have had their minds constrained within our very limited educational systems which contain and inhibit natural genius imho.

Current knowledge is exactly that and will always be of limited value.

Precisely. "Know what" is pretty much completely useless compared to "Know how".

We develop the skill sets that are necessary to survive and prosper in our environment, Aborigines are still basically 'hunter gatherers' a skill set we lost as we moved away from surviving off the land. Tragically as with other native tribes when you move them away from their natural way of life, many take to drink and drugs as they may not readjust and prosper in an often artificial and repressive new environment afforded them, that doesn't play to their current skill set..

We need more problem solvers and doers......................and to break down the constraints and restrictions etc created by a hierarchical structure that is bent of maintaining it's position and the status quo.

Adjusted to take into account my disability = dyslexia/dyspraxia. I'm not sure how it was arrived at, based on the tests I took.

Thank you TBM for casting a light on our past and bringing it to my attention. For those interested, here’s an excellent article about Connections to slavery in my beautiful area of North East Scotland.

Cheers - there's some amazing untold stories out there. Along with my Year 9 class, I learnt all about Arthur Wharton yesterday. really interesting story.
