Just a heads up. MrsW uses a PO savings account just for the convenience of cash withdrawals anywhere.

We just had a letter that from March 2022, they won't accept Direct Debits into their savings accounts.

If you tend to bin updates on terms & conditions, you might miss this one.

Thanks Dave,
while we are on the subject of T&C's are you aware that if you have premium bonds, when you fall off the perch the bonds go with you.
They do not go to your spouse or children, so if you feel a bit rough cash them on the quick, or risk losing them. scared

Why is there only one monopolies commission??

Good advice, I didn’t know that

Don't think that's true, but probate may be required if the value is over £5000

Yes we recently got the face value returned to us upon request after the MIL passed away a couple of years ago.

I was impressed with their online service as they let my wife adopt two very good income bonds (a heady old 2.55% grin2) that I had arranged for the MIL a while back and still had a couple of years run time, it was a seamless operation.

Yes, you can get them out but I don't think you can transfer them. My mum had an old style premium bond certificate she inherited from her mother, she never cashed it in because it was fairly low value. However, when mum died I managed to get the money back. My worry was it might be a winner at some point and I would not get the winnings! I needn't have worried because after the holder dies they're removed from the draw but they don't give you the money back unless you ask.

I believe the bonds are not transferable, but your spouse can cash them in by filling out a claim form.

Recently gone through this as a result of family bereavements, the premium bonds cannot be transferred, but the estate executors should cash them in, distribute the proceeds after any probate requirements, and the beneficiaries can then buy new premium bonds if they wish.
