I could not think of another description for the " Drivers footwell cross bar". Its the bar, that is actually on the floor of both footwells, part of the frame, that I and probably many of you use to heave yourself out with. I put my feet on it and push myself up and then nip over the side. Hopefully you now no what I'm talking about. The aforementioned crossbar is now showing signs of wear and needs repainting. Does anyone have a recomended hard wearing paint that they may have used to do the same job?

I know exactly where you mean, and what you mean.
I use black tank tape or gaffer tape to cover the tube, when in place it is difficult to see that it is not painted. The tape can be changed as often as needed ( it seems pretty tough and lasts quite well) with little effort or expense.

Good idea. Stair tread tape, skateboard tape, etc. I put a wide strip of it on the third rail on my 4 post lift to stop the rear wheel from spinning on the aluminum channel. The tape covers between the upright legs of the channel.





It also makes for good gripping surface on things you don't want to drop.

I use tape for protection on the cross beam as well , but for general touching up on the chassis, you cant beat Tractol paint ( Phil B tip )

I have thought about the non slip tape as seen on skateboards, I think alluded to above. Not done it yet though!

Courtesy of Mr Bleazey The Special has a non-slip finish to the cross rail and it works a treat. I’ve no idea how he did it but it is certainly a good mod to do.

I painted mine with Hammerite which worked well.

Mix some sand in it to give an anti slip finish

Black plastic water pipe with a cut along the side so that it clips over the chassis tube works well.
