I've started some of my winter improvement jobs on the Roadster.

In the past It's been suspension upgrades and engine swaps but "Nero" doesn't need any of that so I've turned to some slightly more prosaic modifications.

On my 2009 Roadster, the turn indicator warning lights are low down in the centre console (as in many other models) and I was finding that it was all too easy to forget to cancel them when concentrating on the road ahead and with engine and wind noise masking the feeble warning beeper.

So I've added a new single warning light high up on the dashboard, right in front of my line of sight next to the rev counter.

I've used a very discreet black bodied LED the only shows the green when the indicator is flashing so It blends in very well with the black dashboard.

Needed a 16mm hole but I also had to counterbore the back of the dashboard to accommodate the limited thread length on the LED.

The other issue was to get a single warning light to work on both indicators without feedback to the none operating light.

To accomplish that I put a couple of diodes in the circuit and took the main feeds from the front indicators. Low power LED warning light so it doesn't affect the main flasher unit.

Works a treat and hasn't changed the flasher rate at all.

I'm not saying I'll never forget to cancel the indicators ever again but this mod will certainly reduce the likelihood.

That is good looking addition like John I have the buzzer fitted.

I did also try the buzzer but I found it annoying when sat at traffic lights etc.

I was going to fit a switch to turn the buzzer off but then I'd probably forget to turn it back on again.

More to the point, it also annoyed SWMBO.

Yeah, I have he buzzer type - it only comes on after about 10 seconds, and is cut if you've got the brake light on. Cost a smidge under £15

I've also fitted an 'off' switch in case I have to use the hazards..

Looking at the LED indicator I believe Bob used, I would have been tempted to use two of the single direction arrow variants if I was taking that route. This would save the need for isolating diodes whilst showing which direction was selected.

Richard, I did consider using 2 indicators but I didn't want to clutter the dash more than necessary on this one because I'm also thinking of adding a shift light (gear change light) like I did on my old 4/4.

I also wanted to try out my very basic electronics knowledge (and I mean very very basic) to understand how diodes work.

A lot of the mods I do are more what I call learning experiences rather than necessity driven and this one involved taking the dash out and stripping it down so I could drill and counterbore the panel.

A nice little learning experience and I'm no longer afraid of what might be lurking behind the dashboard. I also re-plumbed the washers at the same time to alleviate the rather annoying wet knee syndrome.

Sorry Bob not meant as a criticism, just suggesting an alternative that might work better with two smaller LED's.

I'm also wary of taking dashboard off as couldn't initially find the screw holes on re-fitting last time. Later a piece of wood broke off possibly as a result too many screw holes!
