I played Rugby and Cricket at school and at university , perhaps with very little skill and competance but enjoyed it enormously. My children call me a reactionary old fart but I think both sports have been ruined by money ,the media and 'professionalism' .I think motor sport has become just the same ..Formula One and WCR is show business on wheels and tedious in extremis.
Is it just me getting old and grumpy?

Formula One is interesting if you happen to be invited by one of the teams, paddock or pit pass that is. In that way you can see a lot of the behind scenes work.

Watching at the track in the public areas you see very little and might as well watch it on TV.

I remember clearly the point at which I stopped following both Formula One and the Motorcycle GP because it had become too commercial and the race was/is continually interrupted by annoying publicity.

Still got my attention the F1 Circus led by the wee dwarf even with all the percuniary shenanigans and ridiculous mid season rule changes he can muster.

Farce yes but at 200 mph in parts still worth a watch IMHO.

WRC has so few contending works teams that for me it is no longer a good view. Old -art syndrome definately I can still hear the Audi Quatros, Lancia Stratos popping and breathing fire on overun.

Red Bull Air Race I loved especially as Paul Bonhomme was the Champion for the two last years of contention,RB subsequently ceased the series for various reasons but it maybe returning next year. 3 Yrs ago I went to watch it in London village opposite the Dome and it was fast and it was exciting, hopefully it will return. Nice town you live in beethoven my No 2 Daughter gained her Law degree at Aber before going to Chester (more shops) for LPC and had a really good social life to boot. We as parents had several trips from S Devon as you can imagine and there are some great biking roads enroute.
Perfect Morgan countryside.

Yes Aber has some great roads....but at weekends they are full of bikers and mobile speed camera vans.
I remember the first RAC rally I watched had Jim Clark in a Lotus Cortina and Graham Hill in a Cooper S...cars a privateer could buy and compete on equal terms.

Proper cars sans ABS PS ABD AC TC but maybe an LSD just to provide a little more traction and Speed (yes I have realised the other conotation of the two words). Properly cars driven by properly men with very little power anything but -alls the size of grapefruits, safety cages you could hardly notice et al. It must have been a privelege to behold, probably for free ?
Real old fart moment there

I normally drove up from Devon after work and pack the car up with the normal student appendages in about an hour, quick cup of tea and head for home again giving No2 daughter a bit of driving fun on the early leg of your roads, relieving her at Gordano or Exeter if needed.

Thus we avoided the bacon traps and too much traffic, job done

Martin Johnson's second home is a neighbour to us and it seems he has a lot to think about now. Let's just hope they don't throw the baby out with the bath water as is so often the case.
