Getting Comfortable

So its been a bit a trial and error to get comfortable in my 4/4, Maggie. Being a mere 6ft 2", leg room was a bit of a challenge.

To date I have:
[list]
[*]Replaced standard steering wheel with a 14" Mota-Lita one
[*]Removed wooden seat batons
[*]Discover that the seat wont go back fully as it hits the spring hanger cover
[*]Refit the seat batons
[*]Find that most of the speedo and rev counter are hidden by the steering wheel
[*]Add 1" spacer to steering wheel which gains more leg room and shows a little more of the instruments
[*]Test drive a different 4/4 which has had the spring cover squashed to allow the seat to go back
[*]Spend ages trying to decide how to elegantly modify the cover rather than just hammering it
[*]Light bulb moment - just replace it with a fabric cover
[*]Fit fabric cover over the spring hanger
[*]Remove seat batons again and experiment with various numbers of penny washers to set rake on seat
[*]Fit a Mota-Lita offset steering wheel
[*]Revel in seeing the speedo and rev counter
[*]Cut down the seat batons to match the comfortable rake found with the penny washers
[*]Enjoy being able to actually get my legs in comfortably laugh2

As you can see the passenger seat is higher than the drivers now, so next job is to lower that too.

Good job. I did something similar in my older 4/4 4 seat. Used a semi dished 14"wheel, dropped the seat runners by about a centimetre (seats now sit directly on the crossmember). However I did hammer the sh1t out of the spring hanger cover.

I must admit to massaging the spring covers with a hammer as I couldn't seem to remove them....

It wouldn't be that difficult to replace the covers with leather.

Oh damn, now I see it's been done! grin2

Quite happy for you to use it in your 2nd volume😉

(And surely you'd use neoprene anyway😜)

On my 4/4 the cover I discovered had come loose and wasn't covering the shackle. There was no noticeable water ingress. They seem to be cosmetic.

Great report, I‘ ve got the same expierence.

The idea with the washers is very good, so there more options to modify.
