We are very much in the middle of a change process. As a young man I can remember my father using Barclays Bank at Shipley ( Manager Mr Edmonson) for all transactions from share buying to safety deposit boxes, to foreign currency, and indded he used to pop in for a chat with the manager when passing.

In contrast, I avoid cash, use Apple pay for any shopping, transfer money by internet, transfer money abroad using an on line service, buy and sell shares via the internet again. The four bank bracnches in our village have closed but then in 15 years here I can only ever remember using them once to send money ( expensively) to my M-I-L in Tenerife. And in all honesty after talking to pals I reckon my financial affairs are more complicated than the average. I really dont see the need for physical bank branches.

Do you carry cash? I certainly dont.

I do, and if you want to cross the turntable ferry to Skye then so should you!!😃
My son doesn't carry cash so it was dad to the rescue during our holiday this summer.

I agree that there is little need for a high street bank now, last time I was in one was 4 years ago.

I keep an emergency £20.00 plus a credit card in a card wallet in my back pocket, but for 99% of purchases I use Apple Pay.
The last bastion of cash was the toll bridge at Bathampton, but they now take a card payment for £1.00.....
I feel sorry for Charity Collection people as until they have card readers I can't pay them.

As far as visiting a bank is concerned, we do, but it is an office not a high street facility that deals with cash and we go there to discuss my pension and investments.
Cash is disappearing fast, which is a HMRC tatic to help kill the black economy.
