But to automatically assume the manufacturer should replace the windscreen is poppycock. I cannot think of one example where I have claimed for a new screen from the manufacturer of the car I own, so why would MMC have to prove to be different?

Not exactly correct. The manufacturer has ultimate responsibility for the 2 years MANUFACTURERS warranty. By not accepting liability, MMC is tossing the baby to the dealer.

If the screen failed at rest, I am in agreement to you.

If I am not mistaken, the customers contract is with the supplying dealer not the original manufacturer. The dealer has the contract with the manufacturer with respect to the product. I believe that in the case of a windscreen fail while at rest, the dealer should resolve the issue with the product and claim against the manufacturer. What I would suggest is that if the supplying dealers are not resolving the issue correctly the blame lies with them.

To a degree I can understand the problem. When a company has hundreds of products out there that are perfectly OK it is difficult to understand why some should not be OK when they appear to be identical to all the others.

If I understand correctly from all the posts on this topic it seems to be a small percentage of the Sport versions fitted with the 9 stud hoods that is affected. I don't know how many Sports get built a year but I guess it is in the hundreds. Clearly not all are affected, just an unlucky few.

Hi Gambalunga

We actually have +4, +4SS, and 4/4 Sports with the same problem with the screens cracking, the numbers MMC and the sum of all the Agents only would know.
As I replied yesterday to one of our new members who has 300mls on his +4SS when his cracked, in a non impact related way.

MMC have a problem with these windscreens and "the truth will out" eventually, my suspicion is that the heated screens are not as structually/molecularly sound as the standard laminated screens were. Could even be a change of screen manufacturer ?

My +8 which I enjoyed for 4yrs had the same windscreen after the 33,000mls of enthusiastic driving.

SFO, TRENT, GAMBALUNGA - Today I had a job to do in Blandford Dorset which leant itself to taking the 4/4 Sport instead of the tintop. This is a lovely run mostly along the A35 including the Jurassic coastline etc, a nice 220ml return trip.

On the journey home "guess what" a crack starts in the top LHD corner of the windscreen and this was an ex MMC factory and Agent fitted 1st week August approx 500mls ago. This was the advised (by Agent)to claim on Insurance screen.

Now the vehicle is out of Warranty period (1st screen cracked at 20 months) and I imagine the insurance company will be overjoyed if I claim another screen within a 3 month period.

Anyone any constructive new thoughts sherlock on this one other than paying the £972-07 myself or get Aero screens. Neither appeal to me mad2

It didn't spoil the day because any Morgan drive is a joy drive, but the £140-00 laminated non-heated locally sourced screen is gathering momentum I feel.

I think I would go for the non heated ordinary laminated screen.
Have you thought to try one of the plant maintenance firms. Nearly all tractors, diggers etc have flat glass. I have seen it being cut, they use burning meths to melt the pastic laminate instead of trying to cut it.

The roof only goes on in extreme wet during the winter months and is the only time the heated screen goes on.

That's a good vote for locally sourced - thanks.
If I go that route it will prove/disprove my heated screen theory i.e. being inherently weaker.

Thanks ivanford for that, hadn't crossed my mind to try them and an interesting method of cutting/sealing the laminate membrane.
We have plenty of agriculture around here, not much plant and building just now ! I shall make a few enquiries around about, maybe boats too use similar?
