Given that Government Departments will spin data to optimise the whirlpool of political advantage, no official data on anything should be trusted without an independent audit. Even then the truth may be out there but finding it will need more than a spyglass.

A classic example of misinformation is the fishing dispute. Where is the truth? Both sides can't be right. It's about half truths and spin on both sides playing to the audience, instead of having an adult conversation , and an independent review.

The BBC and anyone else can only report what they are told, and sure journalists also spin news stories, so the whole system will never provide the whole truth on complex issues.

Me too.

I also use Twitter as a news aggregator - the better Sky and ITV journalists post regularly.

I read as many sources as I feel necessary if there is a major issue going on, Auntie has totally lost the plot and is just a self serving outfit of vastly overpaid Civil Servants that we the customers fund, they are up there with the bankers - rant over grin2

Doing m and a I came across companies who would run 2 sets of books as it were to show an ethically correct business whilst hiding dodgy practices. Not just Asia and Africa either

All news purveyors appear to have an angle these days, left, right, money, power, preservation, dissent or state, take your pick.

We live in a world where perception is reality.

I admit I get most of my news from the beeb but I’m not naive enough to believe that it’s all balanced let’s face it 9/10 BBC news interviews are with other BBC journalists and the beeb are as guilty of using click bait as any of their competitors.

BBC R4 is still my default news source, but Twitter is a better source of breaking stories.

For in-depth analysis of current affairs though, it's Prospect magazine that I trust the most - and Private Eye of course for exposure of dodgy dealing.

I've recently been reading "The Critic" magazine on the Readly app, but I see they also have a decent web version:
