Morning all, quick question. I returned from a long drive today and noticed that the right hand bolt holding the fan enclosure onto the engine had shaken loose (probably due to investigations by garage of petrol smells last week). The bolt and washer remained in place on top of the enclosure however I wonder if I have lost a spacer from under the unit? There was an almighty bang as I was driving along that I put down to running over a stone but I'm wondering if it was a lump of metal dropping off the engine.

thks

Yes, there should be a cylindrical alloy spacer between the fan housing and the engine block. Have a look at the way that the other housing bolt is attached as both sides are the same. The bolts should be loctited into place to prevent them coming loose - an all too common occurrence unfortunately.

Cheers Bunny. I took a look at the other side but wasn't sure if it should be identical. That would explain the big bang as the spacer must have bounced along the side of the car. Hopefully it hasn't left any holes.

I don't suppose you have any idea where to get hold of an identical spacer?

I see it listed as part number T250004 and it looks like a standard 3/8s spacer from this helpful doc. Unfortunately it doesn't give the exact size. I guess I'll just remove the other size and measure it.

Take the one remaining long sleeve spacer and have it copied by a machine shop.

Thanks Rog that's really helpful, now I can probably find one close enough on EBay. A 3/8 bolt would clear an M10 metric ID wouldn't it?

6 mm is just shy of 1/4" .... boy I would have to actually give it a try. you also could stack up a bunch of washers
