Well I did persuade the family to go in two cars to the BHM Christmas Breakfast Club meet which was excellent, particularly as there was a short presentation to Keith from BHM which was stepping back from daily garage life after 30 years! There were a couple of race cars on display run by BHM proudly sporting a whole range of trophies.

Getting out of the car par was very tight with about a 30-point turn and the help of three fellow Morgan owners to watch each of three corners. Unfortunately having got out of the space and just about straight ahead in the car park and the fuse for the power steering cried enough after all that effort in such a short space of time. So my early Christmas present from BHM was a new 50A fuse! Thank you very much to Jamie and Brett.

JB how are those tyres in the cold, any side effects of having the sporty tread and compound ?

Alistair- yes, they are not perfect in this type of weather! I was driving to the conditions - so the drive was more sedate than usual- I probably had more issues with a low sun and crud being sprayed on the inside of the windscreen making visibility “ interesting “ at times.

I got out for a quick run on Saturday afternoon in the Aero for a swift blast around some of the nicer twisty roads in East Surrey and West Kent whilst the weather was reasonably dry and bright. It always fascinates me how little wind buffeting there is in the Aero compared with my wife's SLC 43AMG.

Whilst out the speedometer threw a fit and decided that the needle should move round the dial to full stop past 180mph and just flicker there permanently and at the same time I lost the mileage display from the little LCD screen above the VDO logo. All other clock working normally and the speedo did retain it's backlighting so there is power there, any ideas?

After I got home and washed the Aero when I started it to put it back in the garage the speedo returned to normal operation and the mileage display also cam back showing the correct mileage. Is this a case of MORGAN (Most Owners Regard Gremlins As Normal) or has anyone experienced something similar which requires a more structured cure?

I would suspect an earth issue

Is the car kept in a warm dry garage, or in a cold damp box?
Dampness on the circuits behind the dash is always a potential money pit as MMC, in their infinite wisdom, didn't see fit to pot the electronics.
I'm still waiting for a component, less than £100 but without it the buttons on the dash don't illuminate.
Since 2014 I have had more "dash module" issues than any other,

The flickering on the dash is usually poor earth or connection.
Each time it is removed and put back is an opportunity for captain cockup to dine as it is a very tight squeeze for the poor mechanic.

The small LCD display can also get a bit fuzzy due to low voltage on occasion from my experience. Always make certain earth strap on the battery is good and tight to the body, this can also be seen by poor starting (tick, tick)

Peter J - The garage is very dry and well ventilated so no moisture however it is not heated so I guess a bit of condensation could build up. It's odd then on that basis that it was fine from cold and only caused an issue 10-15 mins in to the run.

Robbie & Alistair - That's a good point, I'll double check the battery earth particularly as I do occasionally get a "Tick, tick" on first press of the starter and then ignition off an on and the second time is perfect.
