If you were about to visit your Dealer in the New Year with the intention of changing your Morgan.

With a choice of only one Demonstrator Morgan available to assess,

somestick Which one would you rather see on the forecourt.

1. The New +8 or
2. The New 3.7 Roadster.

idea

Money no object? The new +8. Otherwise the Roadster. Or more realistically, a +4.

I don't see those two in competition with each other.
The new +8 is an Aero so will appeal more to Aero fans.
The Roadster is traditional in every respect.
So It's the Roadster for me every time.

That is a tough one. It would have to be the +8, just to see what can be done below the covers.

Not trying to be controversial here and genuinely interested Mr W, why is the new plus 8 an Aero?

I'm an Aero man having owned two, and I see it as a trad?

It's got a trad body, trad doors and trad features galore on show. I think we've pretty well established that trads can have a variety of engines, so the engine is not the defining factor. Leaving just the chassis. Are you defining a trad by it's chassis only?

I strongly believe the "A Morgan is a Morgan...." adage so don't really care if it's actually described as an Aero or a trad. However it's pretty obvious that MMC see it as a trad, or do they?

Cheers

I must admit I am a little perplexed.

I assumed it was an Aero chassis, suspension, brakes, engineering etc. I quite like the idea of an Aero platform with the shape of the trad ?

did I get it wrong like usual ?

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Ah Mr Boshly, you've identified differing perceptions.

My perception of any car is what's underneath, because that's what interests me. The very essence of the trad Mog to me is the steel chassis and sliding stub axle suspension, and that's what I'm buying into. You're right to say it's not about the engine. The one key attribute of the trad is the engine is unimportant, except to the extent to which it delivers performance.

To prefer an Aero over a trad -(and here I'm surmising) the buyer must prefer the advanced engineering. Nothing wrong with that by the way. I think you're right that the factory see the Plus8+ as a trad, and to uninitiated buyers, it looks like a trad, so they will make certain assumptions when buying one.
But it's part of the Aero family. It would be interesting to know how much by weight and value it shares with other Aero models. The concept is fantastic but I don't see it as a trad because of my X ray specs.
That's it really.

To me its very simple, the Works call it a Plus 8, i.e. a Trad, and therefore that to me is what it is; not an Aero - Simples. grin2

I think the +8 is for me the most desirable car on sale today. I'd be torn between having it in either yellow or orange. Mmmm!

No it is not 100% trad and it's not Aero. It is a totally new concept.
