This has probably been discussed before but I cant find it. What are peoples opinion of which size wheels give the best handling on a 92 4/4.
Mine is the wide body version with the wider 6" wheels and apart from heavy steering at low speeds dont think.it feels that good to drive.had it 3 years (my first Morgan) and when I bought it didnt realise it was a wide body version etc. The garage I bought it off was on a country road so.the test drive was about 5 miles down the road to a roundabout and back so no chance for much steering inputs. I had read that morgans had heavy steering so thought was usual. Since then I have fitted the Mulfab springs and bearing kit which only gave a slight improvement especially as had to fit a steering damper kit to help vibrations around 50mph.
Anyway enough said,i would just be interested in views on the handling with standard and the wider wheels.
Many thanks. Ken.

Simple things first...how old are the tyres? Newer rubber can make a big difference and tyres should be replaced anyway well before they reach double digits.
Has the steering wheel been replaced with a smaller one?
Has the steering geometry been checked? (i.e. tracking, etc.)

What he said.

+ What tyre pressures are you running?

As above. Is the front end greased and the damper blades lubricated ?

Thanks for the replies.
I am looking into swapping the tyres, as ready now.
Tracking is ok.
Pressures are 20 front and 24 rear.
Front end is constantly being greased up.
It hasn't got the damper blades after I fitted the Mulfab bearings and springs kit.
Steering wheel is 14". I did try a 15" but it didnt make any noticable different part from harder to get in.

Re wide body 4/4. Mine is a 92 4/4 but was ordered with the wider 6" wire wheels from the plus4 and has wider front and rear wings to cover them. So it's at least 2" wider than a standard 4/4 .
My handbook says the fronts should be 18psi, but I read that it was better at 24, I tried this but the handling was worse with the front end bouncing all.over the place.
But to recap my original question was to possibly start a discussion as to whether the 4/4 handles better with standard wheels or the wider 6" ones.
Years ago.i had a 1500 Midget which came with wide alloy wheels which looked great however that was a far nicer car to drive after I replaced them with original Rostyles and 155 tyres. Just wondered about the wider wheels on the 4/4.

I've had several 4/4s and have varied pressures between 19 and 22 depending on mood...
