I'm sure if one of them does retire, they could recommend someone else.

Why not fit the pump then arrange for the boiler to be serviced,
this way the necessary adjustments will be made by the engineer and the paperwork will be issued.

If questioned about the new addition "it's always been there" works.
You then get a boiler service as well as the paperwork.

Why is there only one monopolies commission??

That’s what I do.

We had a new boiler fitted by an “expert” after British Gas suddenly condemned it and quoted £3k for a replacement, I went for a local company. We had an open system and the “expert” connected it so the full hot water circulation went through the open header tank. The whole system gummed up with oxidised gunk. I sorted it and converted to a closed system then got BG back to service it. No problem.

Had the same, just waited until the tank was less than a quarter full, pulled it off its base, stood it on its end and changed the tap.

There's one hell of a good oil boiler technician in Bwlchgwyn, he services my Rayburn. Carries more or less everything on his van, none of this popping out for parts business.

We tried that with Kevin, the guy who built our garage. The only person he was prepared to recommend was even older than he was! Vaughn the digger driver is another. He's an absolute whizz with a mini digger, he's as precise as a surgeon wielding a scalpel, but the poor bugger is so old now we have to help him on and off, bless him.

Hi Arwen, I couldn’t wait the stink was too much for SWMBO to live with. Turned out that as long as the spring loaded brass shuttle valve is free all but a tiny amount will be held back. Seized portion was the left handed tap thread that pushed against the valve. Plus gas, very careful drilling and even more careful application of heat ( hair dryer) eventually got it to move.

Any contact detail for you chap? I need to look for a new boiler technician. Cheers.

Gents as a Chartered Chemical Engineer we were always taught that manual valves which are not opened & closed regularly should never be left fully open . That then allows you to cycle the valve to fully closed & then hopefully open if it is sticking.

Which is what I do with the main water supply stopcock.
It helps that it is next to the down stairs toilet and can be closed and then opened whilst sitting on the Loo!!

Who says? The so called professional? After years of stripping and servicing my gas boiler I was told by a plumber that I wasnt allowed to do so and he was reporting me. He got nowhere - you might not be allowed to fit your item as a job for someone else but likely you can do what you want to your own boiler. Certainly that applied to me.

Anyway, who is to know. Just get on with it and ignore the BS.

Sadly it requires two procedures that I can’t carry out, the pump pressure needs to be set with a pressure gauge and the airflow adjusted to produce a clean burn. Tested with a gas analyser at the flue.

I have found a local chap who seems willing to to come along and check and adjust the installation at a fair price so I’m happy with that. Found him through a pal in my car club! Comes recommended. We’ll see…
