I think only you and Shooter have the real power wall equipment at home. We've got a solar array and storage battery, our Zappi wall charger alllows us to charge at 7.5Kw full bore from the grid, can be set to use a mix of solar and grid power, or just solar. Currently our car is sat in the garage getting charged from the panels at 3.2Kw, for which we pay nothing.

Had a Tesla Model Y for two months now and almost 6,000 miles. Total cost for charging £204.40 (home) £123.70 (Tesla Supercharger) and £121.57 (work) Previous car averaged £1,118 per month in petrol....
Looked at the Mercedes E diesel hybrid and with my maths still worked out £300 per month more than a Tesla. Didn't really want either, so went for the cheapest that way helps pay for a Super 3 😀

The Mercedes C300e looks as though it might be a viable alternative to the Tesla. 55 miles on the battery, a nice 2 litre Mercedes 4 cylinder turbo petrol engine. Not as quick, but back to Mercedes comfort....
That sounds like an optimum solution for your needs with all the local runs on battery I imagine and touring at leisure in a totally relaxed manner in comfort. It's not as if any of us on here are really concerned about the running costs of petrol is it, more the availability of it medium to long term.

I have no idea who Rob Heap is though

We've got a solar array and storage battery Are these meant to keep the house running for a short while if you get a power cut? Mine don't seem to be able to do this.

Exactly, also the Mercedes team are 4 miles away, the Tesla Team are 25 miles a day. Delivery on a C300e is 6 to 9 months....

In the last 31 days I've pulled 170 kWh from the grid at a cost of £13.60, using Intelligent Octopus. At 4.3 miles/ kWh that is about 731 miles or to put it another way 1.8p/mile... Nothing else is that cheap: I know Neilda had the same sort of data. They are so cheap to run it is hard to logically argue that any other care makes sense. Mine is wonderful, but at the same time not something that engages the driver. What happens next depends as much on the next phase of the Plus 8 than anything else.
