GDI? Ford?/. The car above has a really sloppy gear change. Salesman tried telling me it was an MX5 box but it clearly isn’t.
That was the only thing I didn’t like about it in the showroom.

Yes it's the later versions that have the GDI, the conventional power units seem to deliver better power and economy without modifying the ECU or exhaust system. I'm surprised about the gearchange, sounds like there is a story to tell there, it's a lovely looking car. DaveW has a long thread on here somewhere about the work that he has had done on his car to improve performance and economy.

I understand the MX5 ‘box went in from 2011 and before that it was a Ford 5 speed box. I’ve had a couple MX5s and no way was the car above fitted with the Mazda ‘box. The Mazda mix is spectacularly good with short throws and snick snick action. The box is the above car was at least 8 inch throw and very sloppy by comparison. Not even close to being as good as the R380 in my car, let alone the Mazda.

I have installed the Tornado Chip in my 94 +8 along with Rpi Ignition Amplifier, Bosch Injectors, adjustable fuel regulator, Magnecor Spark Leads, Free Flow Air intake and free flow exhaust. All easy to install, reseting timing, fuel pressure and base idle a good project with tangible performance results.

Could you not get the backrest re- welded at your required angle as part You need to find a 4-seater being broken or perhaps do a swap deal with a 4-seater owner! Sorry, not me though. I can't say I recline my seats often but it's nice to have the choice. My problem is that I’m oddly proportioned and have rather short legs so my seat position is usually quite far forward but my body and arms are more sensible dimensions to I drive with my seat well reclined to get comfortable. I’ve driven like this for over 40 years and any other position doesn’t feel ‘right’. I’ve found a compromise with my car using wooden wedges under the seat that tilt the whole seat back, lifting the front. It’s better but not ideal. Nowhere near as comfortable as a normal car or the car I went to see a couple of weeks ago (linked above) Could you not ge the backrest of your existing seats re welded at your required angle?

Morgan +4’s with MX5 gearboxes have a remote adaption to the gear lever.
4/4’s have a direct gear lever.
I once drove a nearly new +4 (post 2014) and was surprised to find the gear change sloppy compared to my 2014 4/4.
Somewhere on TM there is a thread about the failure of one of the +4 remote changes.

Robert, that’s an idea I hadn’t considered and certainly well within my capabilities.
Hmmmm
Cheers

well 8 months on and the dithering continues.
Oakmere had another plus 4 available late last year so I decided to put mine up for sale (the px wasn't an attractive option but we didn't really explore it very far either). It 'sold' within a few days to a fairly local chap, he kept me hanging on for about 5 weeks in the meantime I put off 4 other enquiries. Finally he pulled out of the sale due to his wife health (so he said). I think that put off the other enquiries and in any case the two cars that were available locally have since sold.
The seat modification option was explored a little further last year. I managed to obtain non-reclining seats and explored modifying the frame to allow a degree of adjustment with a sort of hinged screw thread arrangement that worked OK on the bench. The 'experiment' stopped when the advert went live and the car sold.
So I continue to dither.........
