Hi everybody,
my dealer installed a „custom made“ silencer, when I got my car new in 2018 and I have to say, that I do not like after all. It is just extremely noisy and I have to change it. And I am too old to look after the police all the time. 😜Do you have a suggestion, what I could install instead? With the standard silencer it has no sound at all. So what could I do? Just changing the silencer would be ok with me. Any advice would be welcomed!

Is the sport manifold still the original one? is it only the rear silencer that is in question? How long have you been driving with the original muffler in 2018? If I understand you correctly, you want a throaty but socially acceptable sound. My experience with various exhaust systems is that they only develop their good sound after about 3000 km and also become somewhat louder. It could be exactly what you are looking for...if you have only driven a few km with it.

Replace the original silencer and fit a 90 degree side exhaust exiting just in front of the rear wheel.

Although louder than standard, it should pop and burble wonderfully on the over run.

A side pipe would be fun, but it is probably way too noisy. 😄
I never drove with the standard muffler. It just rests in the garage. Manifold and cat is standard and just the rear muffler was changed.

Why not try the Morgan sport silencer, not too noisy but better than standard.

Is it just the main silencer from Morgan or a whole system?

Now, it‘s a little bit difficult about my English.

You‘re German, so the German regulations are working. It‘s a little bit like pregnant. You are or you are not.
There is no way between.

In some areas there are policecars against antisocial driving. This cars are equipped with the possibilities to have a look at the full spec of your car. Exactly how your full exhaustsytem must look. In every detail. I know it from a very high level.
Thinking about a damaged catalyst I ask the „man of knowledge“ for a switch over to something from the MX5 range.
Difficult. With an open eye it would be seen.

So in my eyes there are two points for the Germans: ask BASTUCK for a special made exhaust system. They are well known and there was a report in OLDTIMER PRAXIS for an MX5 exhaust.

Another nice and sure legal: VOLKSWAGEN had at some GOLF for better sound a simple trick. There was a fitting at the airbox for a tube running to the firewall with another connector. The breathing of the engine give some vibrations to the firewall and sounds.
So only inside the cabine a sound of a massive breath in.

But: as my British dealer told me… rev it. Up from 4000rpm the usual sound is not so bad.

And you‘re dealer sold you something bad, what is his answer?

I know it's a majority English language forum ... but if two German speaking members can better communicate technical stuff directly in their native tongue I doubt anyone will think anything of it.
