Does anyone know the size of the torx button head screws that secure the wings to the body?

What year car? My guess would be M5/T25 (8mm spanner on the nut) as that's the closest metric size to the 2BA that they always used to use before they converted to metric fasteners.

It's a 2017. I thought either M4 or M5 but to the eye there's not much difference. They are 20mm in length.

Well if a T20 bit fits the head it's M4, but if it's T25 then it'll be M5.

Having checked it's the T15 bit that fits so I guess it must be a M3 then??

Standard torx size for M3 is T10, T15 is for M3.5 so I suspect you have a non-standard M4 or M5, M3 or 3.5 seems far too small for a wing bolt. Best way to check is to put a spanner on the nut underneath, this will tell you. if you need an 8mm spanner it's M5, 7mm for M4, 6mm for M3.5

They screw into rivnuts rather than a conventional nut.

Mudguards at bicycles are usual fixed with M5 screws. M4 for a MORGAN would be a little bit to small.
A few years ago I customized a friends Harley. I fixed the carrier for the rearlight and the numberplate with three M5 screws and selfsecuring nuts.
The Harley vibrations undo the screws in a VERY short time.
So I think more on the M5 than M4.

Yes M5 x 12mm with nylon washer into captive nuts on my 2018 car. Mine were factory new button socket head when I changed them like for like with stainless.
In any case you are more likely to have a suitable 4mm Allen key around than equivalent Torx tool.
