Remember - it's is short for it is! Sadly, there are a lot of people who think that would the plural of "it" As in Butcher's to the Queen. (Should that be Greengrocer's?).

Remember - it's is short for it is! But also legitimate as the possesive of whatever the it is. Unfortunately not Nick! Probably the only occasion when it is not possessive. "It's is a contraction and should be used where a sentence would normally read "it is." The apostrophe indicates that part of a word has been removed. Its with no apostrophe, on the other hand, is the possessive word, like "his" and "her," for nouns without gender."
