For another winter project, I'm thinking about replacing the twist-off fuel filler cap with some sort of hinged flip-up "Monza" style fitting like I've seen on other Morgans. Does anyone know of one that just twists on the existing neck, or will the deck panel need to be cut for a complete new set-up?

With the amount of adhesives available today, If you found a Monza style cap that would sit over your existing fuel tank spigotI am pretty sure you could glue on in place.

Many years ago I fitted a Monza cap to a m/cycle tank using cataloy/bondo, I just built up the cataloy around the filler neck and pushed the new filler cap into place, wiping away the excess cataloy as it oozed out. It worked a treat and gave no problems in service. I suspect the lip around the filler neck and the cut threads on the inside of the Monza cap gave the cataloy a good grip to both.

If that task was tried today whatever substance as both adhesive/filler would have to be resistant to the fuel in use... I was a teenager when I did the deed, life was just not that complicated back then..

There are a lot of fillercaps around which you can use.

But it‘s also simple to change the neck for to fit a cap of your choice.

Changed mine a few months ago. Cut the old pipe out, as close as possible as it leaves an oval hole. I then used the new cap gasket as a guide to enlarge the sides of the whole, and drill for the bolt fixing. Used a chunk of Ultraflex fuel pipe (as the old pipe was straight on my 4 seater). Slight issue - the filler cap needed a 50mm hose fitting and the tank was a 47mm but I used some petrol resistant rubber as a filler piece and it is fuel tight.



I used Newton mounting stuff - I think it's what MMC use on the M3W and other stuff. It has a locking vented cap inside, although the Aston cap itself was a £30 eBay special. Polished Alloy and a fraction of the price of others.
