I've always been a Bentley fan, but with the motto: The older, the better. For a long time I couldn't get excited about the Bentleys of the 80s, 90s and the beginning of the new millennium. Today, for example, I find a Bentley Brooklands or Azure very nice. Not that I could afford one...
Jens, this is a perfect example of what I mean. When it was new, it was perhaps too pompous or too few classic form elements in the details, whatever. Today, the perception is dominated by the proportion of the body, which is fundamentally different in modern cars. RichardV6, I also think that our taste is not only islolated by the perception of a car, for example, but very much by the development of the design language around this object, so it's a relative consideration, never a detached one. And ok, the examples of cars that were terrible at the time and that you still don't like today exist, of course. Let's look at them as a phenomenon of contemporary history.

Yes, I agree about the shape lines of the 124. And it's true, our 220CE W124 is absolutely well balanced and weighs 1,400 kg, which is not much for such a car by today's standards. It has 265,000 km on the clock, of which we have done 120,000 km in 17 years. But you don't notice the high mileage, it is also a rare car, for one thing only built for 1/2 year in the combination series 1 body and 220 engine and with full leather, which mostly only the 6 cylinders had at that time. The engine whirrs as smoothly as on the first day...I also think that with good care, the old naturally aspirated engines can last longer than the downsized turbos of today. It’s also carbon neutral by now Heinz.

From my perspective on this side of the pond, the mid-60s Big Three station wagons suddenly started looking good. While not technically a station wagon, as the cargo area is open, a 1966-68 Chevrolet El Camino gets me knickers in a twist.

From my perspective on this side of the pond, the mid-60s Big Three station wagons suddenly started looking good. While not technically a station wagon, as the cargo area is open, a 1966-68 Chevrolet El Camino gets me knickers in a twist. This is another very good example of how the view can change. I googled the car, back then maybe a compromise between comfort and load, today a super cool vehicle.

El Camino - A car up front, a truck at the back - you drive up front and f@&k in the back............
