Back the car into the garage as normal and simply plug Monty's battery directly into my charger, job done

They're Continental Eco Contact 6 in 185/65-R15, the tyres that came with Monty were the original Yokohamas dated 2011, unsurprisingly they had gone as hard as wood so I was forced to buy five new tyres for safety, tyres are your only contact with the road so good fresh boots are essential.

I actually went down from the 195 original size but up in profile, 185 being the skinniest tyre you can safely mount on a 6" rim, the 185 size lightened the steering while still delivering more than ample grip on my 143hp Morgan, going to a 65 aspect ratio helped fill the arches, as did lowering the car front and rear and black powder coating the wheels as this helps fool the eye rather than drawing attention to blingy polished stainless wires the car was originally specified with.

Most modern tyres in this size range are typically designed for vehicles in the 1,200kg to 1,500kg weight bracket which results in a harsh ride when fitted to a lighter car, however, the Eco Contact 6 has an unusually soft sidewall for a modern tyre. The Eco Contact 6 is actually designed this way to improve fuel economy, but the happy accident is the soft sidewall is that it makes the tyre ideal for an unusually light car (by modern standards) like my 930kg 2012 Plus 4.

The ride, steering feel and grip from the Eco Contact 6 are all excellent, these tyres were also excellent value for a quality brand like Continental, I paid £340.75 for five from Camskill including carriage, this made them £68.15 each delivered to my door which is unbeatable in my opinion. My local tyre fitter has the correct cones to ballance wires and only charged me £90 to mount all five tyres and balance the wheels, I gott him to use black stick on wheights and hide them on the inner of each rim thius making them completely invisable.

I think the car sits well on these tyres and I'm very happy with the way they perform, I also feel £430.75 to completely re-boot Monty with a set of five quality new tyres and balance all five wire weels too was outstanding value for money, definitely a small price to pay for safety. drive

My new gaiters had arrived from Carbuilders the other day and as the weather was looking a bit dull I decided to bite the bullet and get on with the job. It was a lot easier than expected and both gaiters where changed in about 2 1/2 hrs with no swearing, a quick look outside showed the weather had cleared and the sun was shining so grabbed the wife and went for a test drive up into the nearby hills finishing at a favorite cafe for lunch. All considered a very successful and pleasant days work.

My SU float chamber lids finally came back from being fitted with overflow tubes. I also ordered new needles and seats, gaskets, and float pins. The carbs are back together and the engine is running. Now I just need to run the overflow hoses to a safe spot and I'm back in business!

I bought new needles and long overflow pipes at Goodwood Revival. Now trying to decide a routing for the pipes.
