Out of necessity really ... the 5 speed linkage stuck out several inches through a ragged hole in the old tunnel (like the alien bursting out of a spaceman's chest 🙂) ... needed something to cover/accommodate that to get me out driving so made the box ... when we get a bad snow patch over winter I'll.pretty it all up ... til then it's a bit utilitarian. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2022/10/17/20221017_140519.jpg) It was inspired by the similar boxes over the shift in my A40 Farina (first car) and early Midget (first sports car I drove) ... a nod to my motoring roots 🙂 K

They made a right pig ears of that - your solution looks much better! Not sure why they cut it about so much - my five speed fitted within the existing gearbox tunnel, and the lever poked through the same hole at the 4 speed. The only alteration I made was slightly enlarging the hole to make it easier to get to the three gear lever mounting bolts. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2022/10/17/IMG_20220704_082122.md.jpg)

Indeed ... hole looked like it was cut with a hatchet .... oddly, on mine the gear-lever wouldn't have gone through the same hole by a couple of inches and its mounting sits well above the old tunnel profile, hence the butchery ... over winter I'll sort some gaiters and tidy/spray the box and all will be well ... does the job. Racers can he a bit brutal when it's not something critical.
How do you find the shorter gear stick? .... I want to shorten my shift as, at present, there's not much room between my hand and the bottom of the dash .... is it a normal gearstick but shortened or a purpose made 'quickshifter' mod?

It's just a shorter lever - I cut the end off, ground down the stock and cut a new thread. Really smooth - no issues.
Originally I had a quick shift, but the gate was far too tight and found it a real pain to use. I would probably have got used to it, but after a week of missed/wrong gears I went back to original.

My tonneau cover zip broke while I was in the Lake District late August, so booked in with Allon White to have it replaced (my usual trimmer has relocated unfortunately). First available slot was this week.
Dropped it off after work on Monday at 5.00pm - had a phone call Tuesday 10.30am saying it was done, All for a very reasonable £80. Very pleased. I'm often quick to moan about dealers and prices so credit where credit is due.
The previous zip was 'suit trouser' size - the new one is 'wet suit' size so much better too.
